  1. Anyone have a decent DIY fix for a broken cross brace on a 120? Currently I have the tank clamped to prevent bowing. I recently just did a reseal and noticed that there was a crack in the brace near the edge of the trim. I should have thought better of it when the tank was down and empty but unfortunately I didn't. I resealed waited and refilled. Within a week I noticed that where the crack was had broken and pulled away from the edge, it is still attached at either end of the break and is basically right where the brace attaches to the side of the trim. At this point it isn't a substantial bow but enough that it causes me concern. The tank does have trim and I attempted during the reseal to loosen it to pull it off but it just wouldn't go it's glued in there really well so whatever repair I make will have to be done with the trim on. I know removing the trim and doing a glass brace across the top is best but in lieu of that is there another option? Something that with any luck can be done with the tank at a half full state so I don't have to put any additional undue stress on the fish in the tank. They dealt with enough during the reseal and are finally starting to bounce back from that, I would hate to have to move them again. Any help? Everything I have found on youtube is basically showing me pull the trim off and do a edge to edge fix, which I can't do
  2. So I just got a 15 gallon tank (rescued tank) with two (what appears to be) Chinese algae eaters and a red tailed shark in it. much too small a tank for all of them to stay in. Wondering what the consensus is on putting the red tailed shark and one of the algae eaters in my 120g planted community tank? this is what's in there 1 skunk loach 14 neons 2 rummynose 2 harlequin rasboras 3 various cories 1 pictus catfish 3 giant danios ( moveable )
  3. Ok so I am running 4x 80W - 60" T5HO bulbs on my 120G planted community Aquarium. It is a well established tank and has been running for approximately 4 years Lighting timings 8am-12pm on 12pm-4pm off 4pm - 11pm on 11pm-8am off Plantlife: Amazon Sword, Anubia, Cryptocoryne Wendtii, Rotala, java fern windelov, and a couple of unknowns. I am struggling a little with algae blooms may adjust light timings to see if this helps. __________________________ Filtration Fluval FX 5 Modified Intake & Output (Spray Bar) No Carbon __________________________ Dosing: Flourish Excel 2 capfuls every week ( too much ? too little? ) Flourish Comprehensive 2 Capfuls bi-weekly (too much? too little?) No Co2 yet ...looking to purchase a new system in a few months yay!! as i am looking to bring some more difficult plant life into the tank _______________________ Substrate: Dirt Base Seachem Flourite Layer Aquarium Gravel ( light layer for esthetics ) 2-3" Depth Substrate overall to 4 1/2" in back of tank ________________________ Tank Inhabitants: Rummynose Tetra Neon Tetra Harlequin Rasbora Various Cories ______________________ From the light to the substrate it's 27" I'm running the 6700k daylight bulbs _______________________ I have been considering playing with my colours a little to do a couple of things.... 1) potential to make the reds and blues in my fish colourings "pop" 2) make the greens, browns, reds in the plant life appear more vibrant 3) potentially aid in plant growth etc Are there any recommendations on lighting colour that will do this? I have been looking into the Aquaflora bulbs? Does anyone have any experience/results with these? what (if anything) would a pink or purple light colour do for a planted tank? as I have read that these colourings will aide in making fish colours more vibrant? Would I have to alter my timings excessively if I were to start messing with lighting colours? also if anyone has any advice on somewhere in Edmonton where I could find 60" bulbs for a reasonable price that would be awesome!
  4. Need these identified please as I cannot remember what all I have in here now lol
  5. Ok so I guess my next question is, which would be the better option? I would prefer to go all natural for getting rid of them as everything in the tank is 100% live/real, and it is a dirt tank. Is there a good community fish that won't hurt the Harlequin Rasbora's and Various Tetra's, and 2 cories I have in there, but that would feed on the snails? I don't need to really get rid of them altogether just sick of having to get them out of my filter, and would like to control them better....lil buggers are sneaky! I'll see if i can get a decent pic of them here in the next day or so for type of snails, as I honestly have no idea what they are and just assumed they are pests This right now is the only pic i have of my tank.....you can see one of them in the right front corner half way up....the others are more cone like in shape and you can see a few along the water line at the top. ( water parameters are beginning to fluctuate here in town now that spring is here, had to do a water change earlier tonight to maintain normal parameters )
  6. Thank you! I definitely don't over feed they all came in on plants that I bought. I feed very sparingly every other day as I only have a few small fishes in there. Where would be a good place to get assassin's? And what would be the best amount to get for a 120 gallon tank? I watch my levels and do liquid tests usually once or twice a week right now as our water here in town changes this time of year. Nitrates etc all within normal ranges and so far haven't fluctuated yet...although I do expect a spike soon.
  7. Hello! This is a re-introduction of sorts I guess.....I have been creeping for awhile but haven't posted anything for about a year. Just been busy doing my fishy thing So a lil about me....I'm a mom of 6, a wife bla bla bla.... Been fishkeeping for what seems like forever! Started with a small 20G freshwater guppy tank, then a 30....then went a whole other direction and got me a 60 long and branched into african cichlids, then got me a 90G, and a small 5g for freshies, and a 10 LOL let's just say it got to be a bit of an addiction ( I know shocking right? haha)....Somewhere in all there had a pile of kids.....cichlids were too much maintenance bi-weekly cleans with 6 kids in the house and 4 of those under 6 was a little bit of a daunting task! So ( because hubby's never been a fishy kinda guy ) hubby got tired of me complaining about how hard it was to clean all the tanks...he made me promise to get rid of all of them if he bought me a 120G! and an FX5 filter...needless to say I said yes....albeit a little reluctantly.....sold off my cichlid stock and got me a 120 freshy schooling tank! Had that set up for about 6 months.....modded the filter inputs and outputs, and decided I was going to go dirt planted! Wooohooo! Haven't looked back Tank has been planted for almost 2 years now and I LOVE it! Back on here now to get some serious fishy stock in it PS hubby doesn't know it but I have a 10G hidden away hahahahaha
  8. Anyone know what the best thing is to get rid of these little pains in my butt? They are in everything :'(

    Your Tanks

So this is my tank.....Definitely needs a trim! 120g Freshwater Dirt Could use some help ID'ing the plant in the foreground left and right Thing grows like crazy!
  10. Has that seller answered your question? If/when let me know what they have to say I am curious. I have been eyeballing a pack they have up for "buy it now" free shipping.
  11. Just reading up on that wiki5858 seller, and the feedback on the plant "packs" seems to be pretty reasonable. Ebay is tricky though because you can't tell how far those plants had to travel to their final destination. The price is right though......Funny thing is I have had a lot of people say not to buy on ebay for aquarium plants due to stringent customs requirements. I have yet to have a problem though? So I guess the choice is yours. At least buying that way I guess you are paypal protected? I have been considering a purchase through this wiki seller so I may go ahead with it after the weekend, I will let you know how I make out.
  12. I considered ordering from that seller too. Chose to go with AquaticMagic instead from i think Malaysia everything i ordered arrived within 10 days and was in decent shape for how far it had travelled.
  13. There is fluorite about 2-3" of it underneath the gravel. There is only a small layer of the gravel on top of the fluorite, mainly for effect
  14. Wow, I hope my tank winds up looking that good! Great job!
  15. So I thought I would post a picture now that I have planted the tank and am pretty happy with how it looks so far. It will of course get better once I am using pressurized co2, right now I am using flourish excel so we will see how it goes.
  16. I think chances are good the first is a blue phantom however that being said ( and I know the pic doesn't quite show it, will try to get a better one now that he is back in the tank with all the plants LOL ) he has quite a "golden-greenish" hue to him which I am not seeing in pictures I look up.
  17. The Galaxy one is about 6" long now. The other I would say is about 4" I have had them both for years.
  18. LOL i just noticed my catfish snuck into the first picture HAHA apparently he is not camera shy, anyone know an approximate value on these? I had someone name them at some point ( years ago ), couldn't remember what they were, and told me one of them was quite hard to replace ( expensive ) just curious. My common is picking on both of them so he will be on his way to an lfs tonight or tomorrow, probably big als if they will take him. If not I have no idea what to do with him. He's in a tote right now with water from the aquarium and a bubbler. I think you are right on the second, he does look a lot like the "Galaxy" pictures I have seen.
  19. So these two came with my tank when my husband bought it for me and I am wondering what they are. They seem pretty reclusive Sorry this picture isn't the best, he's a little upset with me because I removed all the hidey places LOL.
  20. Got everything I need for both modifications. I am having cheap sponges shipped to me to try on the intake, that way if it doesn't work i'm out like $5, and if it does work...awesome sauce! cheap pre-filter! I'm taking pics along the way so i can reference for myself if I want to change anything for any possible future mods or for hopefully another tank down the line a gal can dream right?
  21. Ok I am sure I will have more C02 questions in the future, but onto something different now LOL I was doing more reading, and......I am now wondering about surface agitation? Is it necessary. I do have a powerhead in that tank, but it's mainly for underwater current (which my rasboras love and play in constantly). I am working on my spray bar mod for the outlet on the FX5 ( am taking progress pictures so I can do a post) and as far as that I was wondering if when I set it in the tank I angle it a little bit so there is a small degree of surface agitation if that would help or hinder? Once I have co2 is it a no-no would I lose c02 content in the water etc. I want to get this right the first time , so.... planted tank surface agitation yes/no....opinions?
  22. Awesome! I will ask him about that. Is it worth it to spend big money on a regulator or can i just go cheap for something like that? Trying to get all my price points figured out before i even think about asking hubby to let me sink even more money into this tank lol!
  23. Well specifically I am looking for quite a few dwarf hair grass. I really like the look of it. Oh and I may have a line on a cheap C02 tank through a welder friend of my husbands YAY! ( I knew all those business connections would come in handy eventually LOL ) Speaking of C02, where do you all typically get your tank refilled and/or certified? Curious to know where I would go to do that? I am close to Nisku and from what I have heard there's quite a few shops out my way
  24. I have been thinking about ordering some plants online while it is warm, and they wouldn't die due to cold weather during shipping. I have been looking at two different sites in particular for possible purchases. I have heard a couple good things about angelfins, and am considering ordering some from there - has anyone had any experiences they can share with me? I am also thinking about ordering semi-local TNTaquatica but despite me sending messages I am not hearing anything back? anyone have any experience here, or is this particular site no longer "running". I seem to come across a lot of potentially dead sites these days LOL. ( Just my luck ) Also the dreaded E place? anyone have positive experiences ordering from overseas. I am thinking just mosses mainly as they seem to have a great selection, and so far the feedback on this one particular seller appears to be A-1! They say they can have them to me in a maximum of 10days which i think with mosses would be alright? Or am I totally off par and out to lunch LOL
  25. Thank you, I was wondering about the carbon
