  1. I bought the aquarium salt but didn't put it right away since I'm not too sure if this would do any good. After reading and talking to couple people, I decided just to try it. I added 1 tbl spoon as per instruction in the package. Before I added the salt, betta just lied down at the bottom ..curled up. I hope it's not too late. did you bump the heat up?......a couple degrees a day until you reach around 84
  2. from what i've read they kill everything eventually but i have not owned them so i don't know for sure!
  3. is there anything out there as far as an electronic device to more precisely read parameters? amonia ph nitrite nitrate etc. I agree the test strips are junk but how acurate are the test tube kits? I often wondered this because my job has be doing maintenance in different lighting.....natural and house lighting, when testing water in unnatural light it doesn't seem to be very accurate, just by moving around with a light behind you the color can often look different.
  4. 5. thanks i'll try again..........i have a membership with photobucket but i have forgotten the password and when i fill out the section on "forgot password" their email doesn't come to my address so i don't know whats goin on
  6. that would be awesome!!!!!!!!! i have pics of geophagus tapajos, blue acara, green severum and blood parrots but just can't get them to download
  7. i know i've beatin this question up before !!! time and time again i see members selling items or fish and the first question that arises from readers is "can you post pics or do you have pics?" i think if posting pics were simple on here everyone would post some because we all love the hobby and like to show our creations! I've been told TO USE photobucket or others but I'm a computer dumby!!! Just for the hell of it i went through the process of posting an ad on kijiji and my pics posted easily....can something be done on this site to make it easier? recent suggestions i've been given make zero sense to me!!!!!! eg. IMG LINK? IMG TAG? paste it in your thread? WHAT? there has to be a way!
  8. are there any plecos like this that grow to a max. of 6"?
  9. it looks like it alters the ph.....will it work for S/A CICHLIDS?
  10. today i cleaned both of my tanks and noticed that the gravel substrate traps alot more waste then the other tank with fine sand,so my question is....wouldn't all this extra waste trapped in the gravel contribute more amonia into the water then sand and in my tank with sand does the filter pick it all up? both tanks have a current fan to keep everything moving so the filter has a chance to pick it up the sand tank has geophagus tapajos that never stop sifting so i wonder if the geo's non-stop sifting if breaking down the waste and the current fan is moving everything easier to be picked up by the filter therefore explaining the cleaner water in pales when vacuuming? the sand tank seems to have clearer water too.....also has smaller fish
  11. found some thorichthys elliot from a guy in edmonton that can get them, waiting to find out price and length of wait to get them so if you are interested let me know and maybe we can get a deal on larger order
  12. could be a plugged up fish!!! adding pure epsom salt to the tank (1 table spoon/5 gallons) helps i had a fish acting very similar and gave him a 15 minute epsom salt bath in a bucket 2 times a day for 3 days and he really went #2 !!!!! now i feed frozen peas microwaved, shelled and chopped on a weekly basis and they love them. i used a bucket because my tank is fairly large and only had a little epsom but i have read that epsom and aquarium salt are beneficial in many ways added directly to your tank.......i don't think tetras can handle salt though also adding "cycle" to new tank can start a good colony of good bacteria although a cycled tank is better the gravel you added from the other tank should of had some good bacteria
  13. water was checked already for drinking use.........the water is off colored from the alkalinity......how do i filter without taking out the good elements?
  14. I live on an acreage and have to haul my water from town for weekly water changes.....anyone use or know of a system that would work to remove any heavy metals or other crap in water?.....ps i have not tried my water in tank but it tastes funny so I don't trust it,this water has been tested and passed, but contains a little iron and alkalinity that gives it a slight off color
  15. My fish aren't breeding yet as they are too young, but I keep hoping. I have 2 blue acara that are maybe 2" long,3 geophagus tapajos 3" and the colors are comin on strong along with thread like extensions off their pelvic fins....very colorful and young yet.Not sure how big they start breeding at? In 100gal i have a pair of turquoise severums that have paired out of the original 4,they are about 4-5" long and do their shimmying ad shakin.Had to make an escape cave for the 3rd guy and the 4th moved into my 72gal
