  2. dont use plexiglass. it bends a lot.
  3. how do you get photos like that with no distortion form the glass? looks like you put the camera underwater
  4. oh ok thanks a lot. at the store they told me this one gets larger than a lawnmower blenny
  5. i bought a solaris blenny to eat up some of the hair algae in my tank..... but i cant seem to find any info on them on google. do they go by a different name?
  6. i did this before a few times. i used behr masonry paint and then krylon fusion overtop to give it colour both aquarium safe
  7. check out what i just found..... looked at my tank and saw a rock moving across the sand.... upon a closer look.... a hermit crab somehow survived the move
  8. water has been testing good. no ammonia and no nitrite. got a few fish. two 3 stripe damsel and two blue damsel. they seem pretty happy and actively exploring their new tank video here http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150344051380567&comments
  9. but theres a lot of green algae on it. so i should probably clean it, dry it and then put it in, right?
  10. im also wondering if i should transfer some of my dried corals from my cichlid tank to this tank
  11. one more quick question..... the fixture it came with is a 48" coralife light with 2 T5 bulbs..... one of the bulbs is atinic i think because its very blue(previous owner tried to keep anemone) should i just replace it with a standard bulb or keep the atinic? heres a picture of what it looks like now.... 3 hours after setup (tested 0 ammonia and nitrite)
  12. thanks for the advice. im gonna repost this thread there and see what comes of it
  13. thanks for all the great info. can chaetomorpha be bought locally? and how much does it reduce the water changes by? i do my cichlid tanks ever 5-7 days, but the guy i got the tank from said he did them every month
  14. the liverock was out of the tank for an hour and half tops.... completely submerged the whole trip i've been doing research for about a year and half now on salt water tanks and i was planning on getting a scooter blenny (dont know if its the same thing) how long do you think the cycle will take? about a week or so? also, i saw at big al's they keep some green stringy stuff in the filter... i read its suppose to keep nitrates down. what is this stuff and does it need a light source( looks like a plant)
  15. ok so i bought a 55 gallon saltwater tank off someone on kijiji went to his house, it was set up and him and i took apart the liverock, put it in buckets and rubbermaid containers. had them fully submerged in tank water. left a little bit of water at the bottom to cover the sand. brought it home, set it up. put the liverock in and filled it half with the old tank water and half with new water. salinity balanced out at about 1.025 came with an emperor 400 and a powerhead that i have running in there right now... ..... a little cloudy but seems to be settling down. there seems to be a lot of hair algae on the sand and on the liverock, should i do anything about that? can i vacuum the stuff off the sand?
  16. that looks great. but what is the point of a sump on a 6 gallon tank? cant you get away without one easily?
  17. exactly the same. everything about the 2 tanks is identical.
  18. absolutely 0 sunlight, its in a basement room with a tiny window with blinds always closed. both tanks test the same. no dead fish or missing fish. they go crazy at feeding time as usual the hazy mbuna tank is starphire. should be crazy clear
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTzPLeyYCl8 i have 2 identical tanks side by side. both 75 gallons, both aragonite substrate, both african cichlids. and equally stocked one has crystal clear water and no algae on any of the decor... but the other one where my mbuna are is all green and the water seems to be slightly cloudy (isnt crystal clear) but not milky or anything. i maintain them the same, water changes every 5 days. all fish in them are fed NLS. both tanks are running more than double the required filtration i just cant figure it out
  20. no idea, i keep african cichlids and it keeps the PH nice and high
  21. i use aragonite in all my african tanks and its awesome. i turn on the lights, my pleco swims around the bottom and all the crap goes flying straight into the filter
  22. looks great, where did u get that background?
  23. aquarium design has 20 gallon tanks for 20 bucks
  24. awesome, thanks for sharing. anyone know what time they'll be open?
