  1. Ah, okay. Was it hard to attach to the rock? and where did you find the rocks? Sorry for all the questions >_<
  2. It looks really good! What are those balls on the bottom? Is that the same moss that's on the wood, but bundled into a ball? Or am I seeing it wrong and it's just the moss attached to a rock that makes it look like it's a ball?
  3. Well hopefully we'll both figure out how to fix that problem some day. It's a bit disheartening to see the tank flourish, except for that little bit on the Vals.
  4. Cool! I'd love to get a fish that eats snails. Hoping to get some cute Kuhli Loaches soon for my 55g. Gonna be moving a lot of fish around soon, so I'm gonna have room for more, hehehe I personally like the grass at that height, it looks bouncy...no idea why I think that, but it's what came to my mind haha I look forward to seeing it when the grass has completely covered the bottom!
  5. Wow! Those Vals really grew fast! It's looking really good The tops of my Vals are browning just like that too, any idea why they're doing that? Is it just from being so close to the light?
  6. It looks great! The grass spread out nicely! One of these days I'm gonna go all out and revamp my shrimp tank, and I think I'll have to put some grass in it! As for assassin snails, if you're having a hard time finding some try Aquarium Central next time you're in the city. They always have lot's in
  7. I'm happy to help if I can. I'm actually going to her place tomorrow to buy a game from her, and take a look at her tank/fish. She's got a bio-wheel filter, no idea how those really work, but I'm gonna try to figure it out lol Should be fun. I'm also gonna see if I can get her to join us >.>
  8. I wouldn't have thought of either of those, and me being such a klutz I'd hurt myself for sure lol Thank you!
  9. I don't think you took it off track at all, I wanted info and I got plenty of it Thank you! I can't wait to start looking for some glass to cut! Figured I'd give that a try, and if I fail horribly, I'll just buy one lol That makes sense...and also makes me think that I should clean the glass part of the hood on my 20g. I've never thought to do that. I bet the plants will grow a bit faster in there after I do
  10. The aggressiveness doesn't bother me too much, since my Kribs have claimed my 55g for themselves...would love to add more fish, but their bullies lol I'm setting up another tank just for them...spoiled fish haha They're just too cute, and they're spawning for me. It's too bad that the babies are hard to re-home, but I could always use the fry as live food if needed. I'd definitely take some for my 35g that I'm putting a divider in. Kribs on one side, and something else on the other.
  11. I'll look into cutting my own glass, thanks. I was worried about that. I'll see if it holds water, and then maybe I'll try adding more silicone instead. Hopefully that works, cause if not then I may have to find someone to help me reseal the whole thing. That's all it cost? Wow, I thought it would be more. What I have is a 35g, so I'll look into that, thanks! I haven't thought too much about what I want for the tank, but I will probably plant it. I want to put my Scarlet Kribs in it, along with a divider in the middle so I can put my Apisto on the other side in hopes of getting a few more and getting a pair to breed. Does glass really block that much light? It's clear...so wouldn't the light just go through the glass?
  12. I responded to that a few days ago. Answered the questions best I could, gave her links to sites with good info, and gave her this sites link and told her join AA haha I'm starting to think I want Convicts...after reading about them for over an hour for her lol They are cute.
  13. Currently... Scarlet Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher kribensis) Lamprologus Multifasciatus Waiting for... Assassin Snails (they had one baby awhile ago, so might get lucky again) Apistogramma Eunotus Soon be trying to breed... Clown Plecos and some sort of shrimp
  14. I recently got another tank for a great price, but the top and light that came with it are no good, so I thought I'd try getting a glass top. Problem is, I don't even know where to start. Where would I get a glass top? and could I just go to a place that cuts glass and make my own, or is difficult to get the glass to fit properly? Also, how could I make it easier to feed the fish. Even if I have 2 pieces of glass on top, I'd still have to move over 15'' of glass. I guess it would need parts cut out to fit filters and such too. What kind of lights should I be looking at getting? Or rather light mounts. The actual light is easy to figure out, I just don't know what would work best with a glass top. I'm also going to re-silicone it. That should be interesting. Thanks to a few searches on here I've got a good idea how to do it...but I do have one question. When I take the silicone off, will the pieces of glass come completely separate from each other? I'd assume that they do, but I'd just like to know for sure, so I know if I'll need a helper. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
  15. MTS is short for Malaysian Trumpet Snail. They're those little snails shaped like a waffle ice-cream cone. You can get them pretty much anywhere. I'm sure most, if not all fish stores have them. Also there are members here giving some away all the time. I know Sprucegruve has a bunch for free, along with some easy to grow live plants. Do you have any caves? You could put 1-2 small clay pots in there for them to hide in. It should help them feel a bit safer
  16. I found when I had bamboo completely submerged, the leaves didn't grow much. Though it could have just been from the spixi's munching on them...not sure. I get mine from Wal-mart or Home Depot, much cheaper than the pet stores...they're robbing you at those prices. How do you do that? I've been growing mine in vases to let them get long enough to not have to do something like that...but if there's a way to do it then I might try. Save me 5 years of growing them lol
  17. You're welcome, and if you ever need some more, just ask. I doubt I'll be able to sell them all this summer at a garage sale, and I don't mind giving a bunch away I'm not sure about egg yolk, never heard that one before. I just threw in sinking pellets, and when they get really soft the fry dive in. I've seen molly fry play in it, it was hilarious! They would swim into it and make a mess lol

    Hello

Welcome to the site! I don't really know anything about saltwater, but there a members on here who are, so I'm sure you'll get the great advice that you need
  19. You could try a regular cleaning sponge and use circular motions. A toothbrush is handy too. I'm really not sure what would work with those tanks. I haven't cleaned mine yet. Kinda want algae growing in it since it has daphnia. Tanks looking great!
  20. After reading these posts, I had a thought. Where are nerites born? If they're born/grow up in a shallow bit of water near the shore, then maybe it's instinct to leave their little pool of water to the bigger pool of water? They may think that the tanks are those shallow bits of water. Once they get older the instinct to leave may go away.
  21. I just remembered. I've got a box full of fake plants and decor. If you can make it to Morinville you can rumage through the box and pick a few. If you can't make it out then maybe ee can pick a day to meet in the city and I'll bring the box of goodies.
  22. Female livebearers can hold sperm for a few months I believe, so even if they're separated from the males, they may get preggers again. I think they should change the saying "breed like rabbits" to "breed like guppies" lol As long as a male is around, they're pretty much always pregnant. Being away from the males for awhile should help them relax. Being pestered for some action by a swarm of males is tiring lol As for a net, if you can get a large net (used to scoop fish), you can bend it to hook on the side of the tank and put fry in it. I've done that before when I needed a net. Works pretty well. The females are fine in the same tank. What exactly would you want them apart for? To save fry from the other females swooping in and snatching up freshly birthed fry? If yes, then a divider will cost about $10-$20? Not sure on the price. Fry will hide anywhere they can, including in the nooks and cracks in the gravel. From what I can see from the tank, you should have a few survive. For your first time with fry, smaller numbers are less stressful to deal with. When you've got 40+ fry to deal with it gets kinda crazy lol Since they've been under stress (which may make them hold off on giving birth for awhile) putting them in a birthing net/box may stress them out more. I would just let them have their babies freely in the tank. It's super easy to get the pregnant again, so take things slow, and you'll get the hang of it. Fry are one of the most rewarding things in fish keeping
  23. It may also help to know what plants you have. If you can take some pictures then other members may be able to ID most or even all of them for you. That way you would know if they're true aqatics plants, if they are low-medium-high light, and other useful tips to give them the best growing conditions. I agree with jvision that good local fish stores (Aquarium Central, Nature's Corner, ect) and other members are the best places to get plants. You can often get free clippings/baby plants from other members, which is how I've gotten most of my plants. Try going to The Community Tank -> The Planted Tank -> Swap/Give away section. It's a great place to find free plants.
