  1. Group order anyone? I am thinking of getting some CRS from Frank. We are in contact via email or Ron can start the group order. hb
  2. Hi, I am successfully raising discus frys right now and I believe the trick is to use R/O water. If you dont want to buy a R/O unit, you can buy the 5 gallon R/O from safeway then refill from them to make it cheaper. The eggs will not be fertilized properly if water is hard. I have the ph at 7 with no issues. hb
  3. The post says $15 a piece. I want one! hb

    Best T8

I got 2 of the 4 ft dual lamp, 1 of them is older. I can give them both to you. PM me if you are interested. I live in the NE part of Calgary. cheers, hb
  6. Purigen doesn't really remove Nitrates but the cause which are excess protein and waste material. I've always used Purigen and gave em good results and never had issues with my planted tanks.
  7. Now that's an awesome sight to see.. hb
  8. Had that yellowing problem too, searched the web and found that HCs love Flourish Excel. Tried it and they are growing like nuts and turned greener. You might try some Iron supplement too. hb
  9. Wow, that light will definitely get things going. You will need lots of Nerite snalis to help with algae. The setup is looking awesome! hb
  10. I've seen some of the reviews and it's looks like it is most beneficial to frys and grazers. I'd like tou try some if I can find it in Calgary. hb
  11. Can't wait to see the tank clear up. Have you tried using Clarity by Seachem? It helps a lot. hb
  12. Where is your location? I'll take themnif you are in Calgary. Hb
  13. Best of luck! Post some pics of your project soon. cheers, hb
  14. I have one and it is def 10,000k. This spectrum is also good for plants as this is the mid day light. I did some research before as I also keep carnivorous plants which require tropical lighting condition. Where did you purchase yours? cheers, hb
  15. I do my 10% w/c everyday on my tank, I didn't realize that BiFuran will cause that stress to the parents. I did my research before I started breeding them but I guess that happens. Metro and Prazi are recommended from all the sites that I have visited. I hope they do better tonight when I run the carbon/purigen. Doing a 20% w/c too. cheers, hb
  16. Update: I think I am having the 4 weeks syndrome. Only have 30+ frys and some are still dying. Tried the General Cure by API and the parents and frys are releasing white stringy feces. I added Bi-Furan and the parents stopped eating and are staying in the corner. I will stop the BiFuran medication and stick with the General Cure. Will do a big W/C tonight and run activated carbon and Purigen to remove the medication. hb
  17. Cool, thanks for the info. hb
  18. Wow, looking good! I didn't know we can get ADA stuff in Calgary. I would suggest LED lighting. It will look nice and light will have greater penetration though the water. My P. Helferis love it.
  19. Thanks Sprucegruve and congrats! @Jaykit, I will have lots so stay tuned. I just hope they all survive. They look so cute and eat like there's no tomorrow. hb
  20. Some pics, sorry for the low RES. I used my phone to take pics. cheers!
