Everything has been good the last few days. Might try to rescape or just take out some rock and toss in flower pots just so there is less chance for injury. Just set up a 30 and might move the 2 electric yellows over as she spat her fry out and are ballsy fish to stand up to a front that could just eat them. I think there buggin the fronts to much now that their breeding all the time. Just to try and catch those buggers.....

I am regretting that decision to clean up.

Ha! May have found the problem.... Chatting with my lovley wife about it all. I was away last week and during that time my 16 inch common plec passed. Bless my wife who isnt terribly into fish, took him out.i asked if she noticed when she thought he passed. But she wasnt sure on the exact day she noticed him not moving... My guess is he had at most 2 1/2 days to fester.Could explain the (cysts) on the females. I must have made an error when I tested the water when I got home, doh!! At least now it makes a little more sense as to their behavior.

Just thinking aloud but I think brown algea is common in newer tank set ups? I did clean my sump tonight with tank water. Found alot of grubby stuff which I cleaned/ rinsed with tank water. Which I know is normal but there was alot of it lol. Mind u im only used to cleaning canisters which are tiny in comparison. Again thinking aloud folks Jeff

Little update their all swimming nicely and are regular females still have the white (cysts). But they dont seem affected. Now wierd thing is water parameters.... 0.25/0/80. Find it wierd because I check twice a week normally. And that read tonight also have a bit of brown algae not alot but im thinking to much waste and food possibly? So did a w/c and added prime. Haha im not skilled in math so I just did a double dose.... Hoping that takes care of some of it. Im new to prime aswell and am open to suggestions for its amount use. I just find it wierd how the tank went from cycled to its current state. I did get a big cycled sponge from a member a while back to help cycle. Not a big emergency any help is appreciated

Hey thanks for the help guys, ill keep on the salt like u said jvision. I switched my tank around 2 weeks ago to get more caves in their. And I have a little bird in Harolds ear for a couple more females, but well see as their harder to find at that size. They all seem regular had a couple pink feces after the krill but I took that as normal. Ill keep an eye on em theres no bloat yet. the odd scale seems to be flaking off but I think its from aggression when the lights go out. Ill see about getting some melafix aswell Thanks again guys!

Ive noticed a growth on the tail fin of 1 female front, and not to sure what it is. Shes had it maybe 4 days ish and its gotten a little better after more salt and w/c. While the other female got into a spat with alpha male I can assume. She had a few fine scrapes on her head amd is healing fine, but it almost looks like she has the same spot on her head aswell. Ive looked online last night and tonight and didnt find anything really. Their both flashing their fins aswell. Shes also swimming sideways or angled in one spot. So I gave em peas amd letting them fast for a day then ill do peas again. Im guessing shes got swim bladder due to constipation so ill see. Water parameters are 0-0-20ppm nitrate. They all seem to be happy and eat like pigs, but my gut has been telling me their is something underlying since I got them. I feed them every other day with pellets and twice a week they get frozen krill or mysis. Ive just started adding garlic to their pellets aswell. ( just dripping very little in a cup and swish it around kinda thing). Sorry for their life story haha but I think thats everything Jeff

Hey everyone, Just curious if anyone would like to share their secret recipe? Looked online and theres so much to pick from.... I have fronts that id like to treat. Silly question but I have about 500 grams of frozen krill and 250 of mysis shrimp. Could I mix em together add some spirulina and garlic then refreeze it? Maybe add whole shrimp and some peas? Went down just after dinner and noticed her tubes right down and the big male a nice blue. Did a quick water change with cool water and off they went. I was privileged enough to watch them both do their thing. very cool and my wife even took part in watching which I thought was great. To late now but ill see if my video turned out ok and post it sometime. If anyone would like to give tips thatd be great. Dont have my hopes to high but well see if it all pans out.....

Id say 3 is some type of peacock, and 5 id say is nimbochromis livingstonii. Others im not sure more than likely a "mixed" african. Background looks great, nice set up. You might want to get a bunch of rocks for hiding places as you have a wide range of cichlids tho. Just lookin back looks like your deco is hollow perfect for caves! Id still try and make some more if it was me Jeff

Looks great! I also have an ehiem 300 watt heater...... Long eh? Lol well theres not much you can do really except angle it or lay it down. If it was me id put it on the output side of your fx5 and maybe on the width of the tank instead of the back or length side. As for fish id run your hang on back with the fx5 for a while..... 2,3 weeks maybe. You could toss a few fish in but dont overstock it. If youd like alot of fish right away see if you can get your hands on someones old sponge for all the juicy bio..... I was lucky and I have a guy that lives down the street from me. Eitherway your good. What are you stocking it with? Jeff

I agree I was thinking even just a tang tank. Adding what you suggested and Maybe trying cyps and leleupi knowing fully well they could end up dinner. But it would be a nice range in color.

I hope they start holding eggs in a while. Well see, my gut tells me theres a few more males in their than I should have... But well see. Yea I thought it was ich initially but only one broke out with 10 ish spots for a couple days now their gone. They do have a bit of a bacterial infection as u saw the fins. along with a couple raised scales and a touch of red where fins meet their bodies and a bit of cottony crap. Ill keep an eye on em but I think your right with WC and tlc and they should be good.besides they dont seem to be bothered by any of that and their eatin like pigs lol So far I like it to I may have to make some more caves later on. Id like to have them holding eventually, but I wouldnt mind some calvus/comp and maybe a couple blue dolphin or possibly peacocks . Well see tho as I might have to get bigger fish or grow them out before putting them in. Ill stick with the fronts and see

You could also try www.aquatraders.com for a canister. I dont have one so I can't speak for them. But I did read ALOT of reviews and most seemed happy with them..... Just another option instead of ebay

Picked up some meds for em,hopefully that does the trick. Took a few more shots.... They seem to be settling in more now.

My tank is a 100 gal and I only got 5. There fair size tho biggest is roughly 12 inches and the smallest is 6. Not sure male to female ratio yet. They havent been vented yet, so when I do that I may have to change things up... Hope not tho. I think im maxed at 5 maybe 6. if I end up with 2 males then id like 4 females. But I will have to see as id like to maybe fit in some calvus. Time will tell tho

So far I like having a sump. still tweakin a few things but otherwise I really like it so far. Im not a 100% on the variant. When I called the guy said they were f1 mpimbwe. When I picked them up he said kapampa. He used to breed kapampa he said so im not sure. Id say mpimbwe maybe. What do you guys think? Well its not cleared up yet. Not even sure its ich really. Only one fish has one spot and the rest have some fin damage and not slime but like little pieces of white fluff coming out around there eyes, gills and body. I check on them frequently and some times theres no fluff being excreted. Its not bad yet ive added salt like 21/2 tablespoon per gallon and an air stone. They did come out of a tank that was way overstocked with nitrates way to high. I have to run to the lfs I accidently got floating food so I mihjt see if I can grab something for a fungus maybe?? Heres a pic they do have blotches on their fins and they all use are using there fins to rub what they can of them selves. And fir some reason my camera phone turns my water a green color

Well I decided to give them a good feed, some mysis shrimp and took some pics. The one on the right has settled in the other's do get lighter till they get spooked by me coming into the room Thanks for looking!

First off id like to thank tomuhs, James(western canada) for all their help, is much appreciated guys thanks again. It has taken me quite awhile to be finished with this build. Had to gut and redo my basement before I could set it up. Anyway heres a pic I took tuesday night 40 gal sump underneath..... So far I like and working out a few kinks. As it is xmas soon,were a little tight on cash this year but my wife let me get a group of frontosa. Got them off kijiji, the guy bought them from golds 3 years ago. His nitrates tho wow after 1 min it was unreadable. So I spent most of last night acclimating them in a rubbermaid and after 3 hours put em in. Id take some pics but the move was a little to stressfull amd im fairly certain they have ich from that.. Oh well I wouldnt have taken them but he already had them fished out and I felt bad that they were in murky water mixed with my feelings to just finally have fish again lol. Beautiful fish tho, so if anyone else has a call into him at least you know what your in for. Ill post some pics later on when there more settled in
