  1. looks like your cabomba bomba hornworticus rex is doing well. I assume it has root(s)(ed). Nice looking angels in your previous photos! Edit: ah, I see them in your recent photo too.
  2. It reminds me of how special (our) children are. Children teach adults that they do learn from what they see and hear (ambiguity intended). Keep enjoying them Jay. They grow up so fast. And soon they'll be going to see your favorite bands at Century Casino.

  5. You say that like it's a bad thing..... Hmmmm...(and he's not a BN.... shame on you.....) Ah! Are you saying he's dragging his heels in nomenclature?

Are you wanting a recommendation for filter types? I used HOBs for centuries. Then I switched to canister. I ran my canister along side my HOB long enough to establish bio in the canister, then I happily took the HOB off, cleaned it and put it on the parts shelf. A calculated risk that I'm willing to take and I haven't looked back. Are you wanting a recommendation for filter brands? You can get lots of opinions by searching the forums. Here is my attempt http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=35084&hl=&fromsearch=1 The internet is packed with opinions too. I'm sure you'll discover that everyone has their fave, and that every brand has their ups and downs, goods and bads, pros and cons, yays and booze. I would have been happy with a filter 2x my tank capacity. But I found a used canister for a killer price rated at nearly 3x. If you're patient and shrewd, you can find good prices on used filters of all stripes. Good luck Mike!
  8. Here are a few canister/HOB options in this thread http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=30820 If you don't have an FX5 manual, you download one and look at the "Fluval Media Options" and their descriptions (maybe that's what prompted your question) I'm sure people will be chiming in soon... as soon as they get their snow shovelled.
  9. I'd pay money to (sip Balvenie while I) watch that if you would webcast your performance Eugene.
  10. I still think the best place for plants is substrate or decorative anchor points. :smokey: Seiously, I've checked this thread and PMed people who have posted. There was a day when plants were 50ยข a stem... and soylent green was a sci-fi movie.
  11. Roger that. This is consistantly happening when I'm on the forums home page only. No multiple windows open. However... Bingo! The left column was set at "Forums", "Content I have not read" and (drum roll) "Just items I follow." But I'm not following any, so "Sorry, No New Content Found" I can't recall fiddling with those filters, so never considered looking at them. It likely isn't a ghost (shrimp) in the machine... I'm just getting old. Hey thanks for helping the old guy you two! Along with my sincerest gratitude, I'm giving you both 10,000 faux Fisher points, redeemable at your nearest Fisher retail outlet.
  12. Sometimes the end doesn't justify the means Michelle. You're a deontologist
  13. Hey folks. When I click "view new content" on the forums home page, I get a "Sorry, no new content" message. I've tried clicking with varying degrees of resolve, but the results are the same. It doesn't help my emotional stability

    Odyssea T5 Ho

Lee Valley also carries a similar product as Sunblaster for similar $ They're on their website under Gardening > Grow Lights > T5 Full Spectrum. Good luck!
  15. I thought about plumbing my 2213 with pvc. I'm sure there's folks out there that do it, but I appreciate having some linear slack to pull my quick couplers apart. And I prefer not to side load hard pipe. Leaving hose on the canister side of my couplers would provide a little bit of play, but I opted against it. I use a plugged siphon tube on the discharge end (drilled to form a vertical spay bar). And I twist the tube left to right to alter current strength. Not practical for me. Nice fixture! What's the plant in the bottom left? a crypt?
  16. It stinks when that happens... But it is easy to understand why people are so passionate about both points of view. If I eat a 10oz Rib Eye, medium rare, the nutrient value of the steak isn't altered just because I pound back a couple beers and a baked potato with my meal. But a couple beers and a baked potato do altar the total nutrient content of my (brap!) stomache. Both statements are true. So suggesting that either is false will not bode well (not saying that's what you did) It seems to me that % by volume, concentration[aq] (~like ppm) would put this into perspective. Edit: Anyways, I do appreciate you guys sharing this kind of information. That's part of what makes this forum so valuable.
  17. You're doing a good job playing the cards you've been dealt Michelle. I hear that rum, tequilla or chocolate helps a bleeding tongue.
  18. I felt the same way when I was converting to canister. I could visualize the end result and wanted the HOB out soonest. The more I looked, the more I hated it; it was always in the way and moving it was like "tax pain" (if you seen the commercial). What you've done so far looks really good! That piece of driftwood is a nice touch!
  19. The ones Lee Valley sell c/w mounting hardware too. But LV is as dangerous place for me to go. For me, the whole experience adds a another definition to MTS.
  20. watching the movie might not make you feel any better.
