  1. The time I dropped by nature's corner, they didn't have very much stock or variety. Is that just because they were running low and normally carry a lot? Aquarium Central has been my favorite lfs since discovering it and I find they tend to have a good variety... they just got a shipment of plants in last week actually.
  2. The best way to find out is to try. pick up an anubias for $10... if it lives then try something a little more demanding. But yea, moving it to a window would be great... just watch for drafts.. bettas also like it hot Your friend will probably want this as well, bettas are jumpers. http://www.fluvalblog.com/new-fluval-chi-lid-now-available/
  3. So this beautiful little feller decided to stop flaring ever again. It's been about a week since the last time. He just gets pale-faced, a stress line, and clamps up now. Before that, been mirroring him a few mins each day... Maybe he's just tired? Im worried he's sick...Any ideas? Not showing any symptoms otherwise.
  4. Any pics of what they will look like?
  5. Well, I'd ask what the problem is if he's not showing any discomfort. Bettas, when full, should show a little bulge. this guy is pretty full and i'd stop feeding him... but nothing to worry about: http://s4.hubimg.com/u/222575_f520.jpg Now, this guy... that's bloated: http://i12.photobuck...h/sickbetta.jpg What are you feeding him? If it's pellets, they tend to expand after a while... perhaps try soaking them before feeding him. Edit: this is a good example: http://www.bettatalk.com/food.htm
  6. I love how his whole body moves as he noms out. amazing.
  7. Thanks guys! Does he qualify as an HM you think? What about rosetail? I don't get what a rosetail is actually hahah
  8. Oooo I saw that guy there too! What kinda tank is that?
  9. Thanks! Still hoping you'll put another aquabid order together mko!
  10. Quite the decent looker! Sold as a super delta butterfly. Him flaring: His colors: http://t.co/vdHx4XQv
  11. Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Glad you found something you liked there though.
  12. heh. lucky I had an extra day off work today and just decided to pop down to see what was up. show us a pic bettalove! He had a few that I couldn't really pick between.
  13. Aquarium central just got in a shipment of bettas today. I picked one up XD
  14. I'm still looking for a nice blue butterfly too, waiting to hear from mko on this forum or aquarium central... If neither works out, then I'd be interested in importing too. When I spoke with transhippers... One was offering $80 for shipping a single betta and the other was offering something like $160 for up to 6 bettas.
  15. You can bookmark the site and save it to your home screen.
  16. Any filter foam really... nothing too dense. I just have some black filter foam stuck in there. you only need a teensy bit. For the giant hole, I took a piece of overhead projector transparency, glued it (with crazyglue *shrug*) to the lid... trimmed it around the circle's edge so its nice and flush... then cut some slats in it for air exchange. Done with a hobby knife (fancy xacto knife). I'm trying to grow some anubias in that spec.. i'm not sure about the lighting in it. There aren't any fish in that tank yet so I think it's low on nutrients. My other tank with a single betta in it has a bunch of water wisteria which is supposed to grow anywhere... but it seems to be dying I'm very new to plants myself. I don't want to give any incorrect advice so I can't really help you out with plants but the plants bettafishmommy recommended are all great beginner plants.
  17. Pjs has a 2gal fluval spec on sale for $50. A tad small but filtered. You'll have to stuff some foam into the output nozzle to slow it down.... And cover up the giant hole in the lid. Otherwise... Betta bows come in 5gal sizes for cheap too
  18. If you've got an existing cycled (disease-free) tank.. Pull out some filter material and tuck it into your new tank when you get your fishy in there. That brings the existing nitrogen fixing bacteria from the old tank to the new. This should either fully cycle or at least help you minimize spikes of nitrite. Just remember not to bring the stuff over to an empty tank for too long as bacteria need to feed on fishy wastes to survive too! edit: ooo. this assumes that your new 3.5gal and old one have filters! If not... then I'm not sure you can "cycle" them but maybe someone more experienced can chime in.
  19. Hmm if a 2.5gal is "good" then I hope they're okay with the little 2 gals I have. When I get a bigger place I'll get better tanks . Right now though, one has some wisteria and a decoration in it and the other (still waiting for a fishy inhabitant) has some anubias/driftwood to hide or play around in. I was drawn to the dymax iq3 and fluval spec since they have built in filters in the back... both of them have quite a bit of flow though and require baffling the pump's output.
  20. A guy at PJs said they tend to use the side of the tank to jump out of and thus wouldn't be able to jump out of a fluval spec... I'm not so sure... I ended up getting 2 of these tanks (on sale at pjs for $50 plus some random stuff). I'm going to take a piece of overhead projector film and cut some slats in... Then tape or superglue it over the hole in the middle of the lid.
  21. Aghhhhhhhhhh I missed them HMs . I will gently cry myself to sleep tonight
  22. H,m,... So I, mostly interested in HMs and CTs rather than PKs or wilds... I should be pretty safe from jumpers?
