  1. When you say replacing LED's because of longevity, I'm not sure what you're refering to. LED lights are not like tube T5's or T8's, the LED bulbs do not need to be replaced, pretty much ever. I second the finnex recommendation.
  2. This is a complete shot in the dark. Call Enmax, be polite, tell them the planned power outage is going to destroy your home based business. Explain your circumstances and ask them for help. Maybe they'll park a generator outside your house. (They are the power company afterall)
  3. Jewels, sorry to hear that. The first time my pads hit the surface I had 2 flowers. I've been keeping it shorter since then.
  4. In order for it to flower, the pads have to reach the surface.
  5. I have to say, I was kinda disappointed. But it is slightly fragrant.
  6. I'd like to get a rimless tank made that isn't of regular tank dimensions but only about 20 gallons. Who are the makers in this town?

    Hi

photobucket account, then just paste in IMG links.
  8. They'll do fine as long as you acclimate them well. Consistency is more important than trying to match parameters, they'll get used to the water.
  9. WATER!!! Depending on the paint, if you let it soak it might just rub off.
  10. lol, I grew up hauling bags of urea, and ammonium nitrate on the farm. We used to joke and then wonder if we could use it for blowing up beaver dams! All Seasons has it dry too, they just can't sell it to you dry. I got a very warm jug when I left. It is kind of inconvenient to have to heat it up again when I need to mix a new batch of ferts.
  11. Where? or How? Last time I bought some was the first time I went to All Seasons, national security was at stake so I got a jug of liquid KNO3 instead of dry. Kidding... about the national security, maybe I have that bomb builder kind of look :boom: Now I have solids at the bottom of the jug and obviously a less concentrated solution for when I mix my liquid ferts. I'd also like to try my hands at making clay root tabs. Can I just pour it out into a pan and let the water dry up? I'll make sure to keep the diesel fuel farrrrr away

    Hi

Sounds like a cool setup, PICS!!!
  13. Melanotenia praecox. I have a 30 gallon that is looking for inhabitants. I know some people have had experience with these, what can you tell me about them? The tank is planted, lots of rocks and hidey holes. Using a fluval 304 with spray bar, CO2 injected, sand bottom, sunblaster lights. TOPLESS. Am I going to need a lid? I am learning that I prefer less species in a tank than a community so I'd probably only be putting a school of cories in here as well. If these are going to work... where is a good place to get them?
  14. Compact Flourescent Light bulb. The twisty screw in light bulbs.
  15. You can use a regular desk lamp with a CFL bulb in it. Use the 6500K ones. I find staples or walmart good places to get the lamp.
  16. I use the regular API freshwater kit, a kH and gH kit.
  17. Using hydorponics grow lights is also a good option, cheaper too. Sunblaster is a good name and you can probably retrofit your existing hood. I got mine from Lee Valley.
  18. I use play sand, it's soooo cheap. I pop in some root tabs for the plants that need it and dose the water column. Anubias, ferns, swords, crypts, all good plants to start out with.
  19. It's installed, and even working! lol Only took 2 trips to the store, the silence is bissful!!!
  20. I spoke with an electronics savy person and my solenoid valve is pretty much toast. So I picked up a power supply for the DC solenoid from Active electronics. I'll be installing this weekend.
  21. It's on a timer, if it isn't then I will forget about turning it on. This is really for the best in my situation, so I need the solenoid.
  22. Sooo, my system has been working like a pro since I set it up. I even added a T with a second needle valve for a second tank. Then this week... the solenoid valve started humming. It's that annoying 60Hz AC hum. I work from home during the day - early onset insanity has been diagnosed. Any ideas on how to get rid of this hum? I took apart the DIN connector but didn't see anything wrong, when I plugged it back in it took about 5 minutes for it to start humming again. My next plan is to take off the coil and see if anything is noticeably wrong in there. If I can't get rid of it, I'm going to replace the valve with another one I have. This time it's 24V DC. Does anyone know where I can get a power supply for this? I went to The Source but they didn't have anything.
  23. Looks like a butt load of Anubias. NICE!!
  24. You won't have trouble catching them when the time comes! I always use a fork for my floaters.
  25. Ok great, I have the right silicone but some of the google answers I was getting were that silicone wouldn't stick all that well to slate. I'd hate to have it underwater and then come crashing down!!!
