  1. Wow, just reading that description... They managed to put a copious amount of buzzwords in there. Makes it sound like it's a whole foods, organic, free range, homeopathic, immune boosting, cure all for whatever ails your tank. Wonder if it cures cancer?
  2. I still have my eyes and all my skin!! Didn't even wreck any clothes. Didn't really work though I think the glass is etched permanently but with it filled I can't see the stains. I tried on a different piece of glass and the hard water stains came right off though so it definitely works quickly.
  3. So this needs to stay off the silicone? I've read some google searches that have given some good ideas about using this stuff.
  4. I have some scale build up on a new tank I got used. The vinegar trick didn't work so someone suggested muriatic acid. How do I do this? Normally I would put paper towel on the area I wanted to treat and then soak it with vinegar. Will that still work?
  5. Ya, I think I get about 7' from windshield to end of trunk in the car lol. That's good news about the reflectors. I couldn't find any info online about places that sell t5 reflectors in town. I like the open top look on my tanks so I'm not building a whole plywood canopy, I was just going to have the gutters sitting on top of the tank. But things like putting vent holes in it wouldn't have occured to me.
  6. I'm slowly collecting equipment to set up a 46 bowfront tank as a planted tank. 1) If I use 2 t5ho bulbs would that be too much light? I plan on using CO2, I have a hagen glo t5 ballast system so no relfectors with the lights. Do I even need reflectors? 2) Where is a good place to get reflectors? I'm going to try the gutter DIY so they need to fit in that. 3) How do you fit a 10' section of rain gutter in a 4 door honda civic? Even with the seat down!!! 4) Has anyone come across a good DIY plan for a rain gutter canopy? My DIY ambitions are high but sometimes the forethought is lacking, and I'd like it to look nice. Thanks!!!
  7. If it's a 20oz bottle why don't you go to a paintball place and turn it in? Someplaces will give you a discount on the new bottle you buy to replace it.
  8. This is happening to me now. I've checked the side bar and it's checked on 'content I have not read'. I haven't been on in a while so there should be oodles of stuff there but nada.
  9. Can you flatten out the substrate profile at the front of the tank? Also, lose all the stuff off the top of the tank, sometimes it's not just what's in the tank that makes us satisfied with our work. One of the chain swords would probably be your best bet for carpeting, and should move fairly quickly. Echinodorus tenellus would be my first choice and then Lilaeopsis brasiliensis but that might be a little slower.
  10. Lettuce is grown hydroponically in styrofoam rafts. I've used ivy and jasmine above tanks before. Jasmine smells so nice!!!
  11. But in an African tank where the fish like liquid rock, is limestone actually going to be bad? Our water is already hard enough and with regular water changes I don't think it makes much of a difference.
  12. I got tired of looking on the internet for a Canadian company, I'm sure there is one out there. I ordered from the meshcompany, which is where the youtube clip got his from. I got the heat shrink tubing from ebay as well. The problem with the really big stuff is that it's kinda thick and that was probably the hardest part of making the filter guard.
  13. Just like anything sharp or metal that you use in water, dry it off after and it should be fine. I've got several of the cheapo ebay scissors in different curves and they've held up well.
  14. ebay is always a great place to shop.
  15. I bought a couple from a forum member on the planted tank. Then I found a youtube video about how to make them yourself, so I made a couple. With the right tools and some time spent on ebay you can find everything you need and then have fun with a heat gun!!
  16. Is the store still going? The number from the website doesn't work, and the FB page now lacks any kind of store-ish content.
  17. I think aqua giant is still building tanks. No idea of price or quality.
  18. Depends on the size, but hydroponic stores are good. I just bought 30" from J L Aquatics and they were more reasonable than other online retailers.
  19. I doubt very much that your aquarium grown Cabomba knows it's fall lol. I find this happens with stem plants all the time, I've been cleaning up the bottom of a neglected 20 tall and I found the beautiful rotala I was growing was completely rotted off at the bottom and was just floating there. I think this is also more prevalant with stem plants that don't get light down to the substrate. I've got Pogostomen erectus and rotala wallichii growing in a 20 long and the light gets down that far for now. No problems rotting off yet, they are even keeping their leaves hahahaha
  20. Nope, I'm not living under the lights and not looking directly at them.
  21. I like how your pipes match that red plant in the back lol. Nice tank!

    Heaters

Yup, every bodies got their own favorite. My fav is the finnex heater controller or the Chinese STC-1000 that I've wired myself. Then you can put almost any heater in the tank. I think the heater is the single piece of equipment we use with the most chance of killing everything in the tank. I Shake my head every time I read a heater failure thread. Spend the money ($40) on a controller and you won't be spending way more than that to replace cooked fish
  23. This was the first auction I came home with anything - all plants.
