  1. I'm always a 'glass half empty' type of person been that way ever since a little kid. While everyone here who has posted has valid points...what also must be remembered is that it is a public business just as this forum is a public forum. Someone might not like negative criticism but this is again (beating the horse) a public domain and they (business owners) must expect it to come forward and any criticism either good or bad has every right to be said to them. Each business has a back-story be it good or bad, happy or sad however that does not have anything to do with legalities that we do have within our democratic system. Some may not like certain laws but hey if someone doesn’t like it…stand up and change it! Yes there are special interest groups who lobby for this and that...we are in a democratic country and have legal right to speak our minds. I'm sure there will be posts to rebut what I've said...but hey...it's all good...we've got free speech in Canada...just as long as we respect other peoples beliefs and opinions!
  2. You need nitrate...algae can happen if your at zero. Not sure but you seem to have hinted that you use ro...not sure on your tap water but ro for a planted tank is wasting $$ and time not to mention being counterproductive.
  3. t8 is fine but if you need to buy anything grab t5ho. if you need something decent and quick check out sunblaster
  4. ouch. heard too many stories about bad tanks and bad fixtures on kijiji. aside from buyer beware let the seller know it's not working...a small chance their a stand-up person and do something perhaps give it a shot....just an e-mail/call.
  5. disagree with the light. 8 hours from what I see is low. no algae = keep the tank in balance = know water parameters

    Hello

Hello and welcome to AA. Cannot do much for fish however if you have plant questions I'd be happy to answer questions.
  7. I thought 'vampire' would be more dramatic...but most people know it by Phantom...yes. The 'connected world' has it's loads! :P
  8. Looks decent. The only thing I'd say is that you need more depth for your substrate and look at 6400/6700K for the lights next time you need to replace the bulbs.. For those sized tanks I'd recommend a minimum of 2" depth of substrate.
  9. Anything in your house that is connected to an outlet.
  10. Here was that topic: http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=36149 Hope it's of some use to you.
  11. Vampire devices can and do draw energy when turned off - still plugged in and it will add up over a year. The way things are in a plugged in world.

  13. Interesting product. Reminds me of a peristaltic pump...wonder if their air pump works on the same principal.

    Co2

For small tanks bubble ladders can work well. Use chop sticks at the end of the co2 output...you can also use cigarette filters as well. Personally I use wood diffusers as they kick @$$. If you had questions about plants, co2 etc just give me a shout...happy to help if you want.

    Hi

Hello and welcome to AA !
  19. Hello and welcome to AA. I don't do much fish but if you wanted to delve into live plants, give me a shout and I'd be happy to answer questions.
  20. I'll be getting wood soon. Give me a shout if you'd like.
  21. snails often get a bad wrap. snails in a planted tank IMO are a must to recreate the outdoor environment. everything in moderation. I do planted tanks and happy to help if wanted.
