  1. good find -ham- (never used this smiley before so thought i'd give it a try lol)
  2. curious, what brand, maker etc? DOH...in the title lol, sry.
  3. I cannot see any harm. I would think it would be great for your purpose as it is high in protein. Was it that dry powder stuff...perhaps green in color?
  4. Never bought those types of filter media. However I could see different colors denote different filter capabilities. Next time take a look, do they feel like they all have the same densities...the same sort of pore makeup etc.
  5. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=35943 take a look @ that, will help you out.
  6. A contest but in a different direction. Anywho like the idea of a kids coloring contest? rules...dunno. can be figured out by members brainstorming. Maybe pick something from this : http://tinyurl.com/c5t6vsr (google image search of fish line drawings) Kids like fish too, we cannot have all the fun.
  7. thought i had seen wood shrimp @ the local petsmart the Glenmore-Macloud store
  8. Is it possible to shorten the pipes? raise the filter any? or would it be impossible? perhaps take a couple pictures of the setup so that members can visualize your situation...maybe come up with more solutions to help ya
  9. very good! Perhaps throw in some wood, i've always been fond of it in a tank.

    Hello

Welcome. There are many addicts here, as AA does also fit! Good people here as well as good info. Have fun.
  11. I dont think the surface area would be as great as floss/media balls etc etc etc.
  12. Looks like that is a submersible filter. If so...make sure it still is water tight. Perhaps it was thrown out because every time they contacted the water
  13. Is it sucking air at any point along the line? I'd assume not as you said nothing about little water leaks Or perhaps, it isn't powerful enough for that height. If this...maybe throw books underneath until you find a height that does work and go from there. dunno, just trying to help with spitballing.
  14. Thought I'd share. I do have this installed and is an interesting program...at least if you like to manage your numbers! http://www.aquarix.de/en/ It's a 30 shareware program, atthe end of this time you can purchase it. Or in theory, save your program database file...uninstall the program, reinstall the program and add the original database file. Have not done this so cannot say if it will work. For more screen shots and info: http://www.aquarix.d...rod_aquarix.asp Hope someone finds this post helpful. (no, i do not know who sells this or have anything to gain by posting this)

  16. Don't have but would like to comment. http://aquaripure.com/products.htm Waste of money imo. That guys states on one of his vids that his filter "removes different sizes of organic particles and microfauna". The act of removing different sizes of organic particles can be achieved with any water filter. "It works very slow, controled..." imo, that means more or less the rate of an ro output. (updated just below) If you want to achieve the same low flow effect, pack your canister full of media as what this is...stacked full with media. He does say how slow it actually is. Between 1-6 drops a second depending on tank size. Yip, that is slow. So i'd have to pay $239 US for two drop a second filter ! ouch. "Everthing that enters the media will be completely broken down by the bacteria" Sure, if the flow is slow enough I can possibly see this.. However this isn't the point. The point is getting ALL the mulm/detritus/poop from the aquarium floor into this filters intake for this to happen. Will a couple drops a second remove be able to keep up with all the mulm/detritus/poop - nitrate! As someone who has planted tanks, I do not want zero nitrates. I want that to be food for the plants. As we all know it's recommended to have a measurable (low) nitrate level for a planted tank. When does this filter know it's removing too much nitrate? I now have a filter that I paid good $ for, which I have to compete against to make sure my plants have enough food. UG If someone really needs to have zero nitrates and are that concerned do tried and true basic aquarium maintenance...save your own hard earned $. I'm sure some will agree/some will not.
  17. I know of this also, same here. I don't see on this forum...perhaps a tread should be started with such info...what people have found grows well with excel (glutaradehyde) and what does not. One nice big post that will gather all added info in the topic.
  18. thought I had seen those hatchets @ riverfront a couple days back
  19. i wouldn't see a problem if I were going to do this by what you say here. Do you have mts to eat detritus?
  20. sounds fair. many way to do it as long as ur tester says 4, good to go. might be worth while to do a couple tests, time apart just to make sure all is well. I made a 4 L jug of the stuff with this method.
  21. Very interesting...will have to remember this. One thing that also comes to mind put a piece of saran wrap over that area...it will keep it moist much longer. When I do strip woodwork, I use the plastic sheet method to keep the stripper moist for a longer period of time. Works like a charm, everything just peels off.. I use newspaper as it seems it has a bit more body than a paper towel.
  22. 100% of having some number of fry. 100% of being a happy pappy.
