  1. Take a read here might help you out. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=28127 Atm, homedepot's website is down so cannot search. Give a read here...there was someone recenty who had a problem with a type of silicone. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=35961
  2. if just straight sand...make sure you get snails that burrow so that they will mix up the substrate
  3. "The natural lifespan of a ramshorn snail is anywhere from 1 to 2 years depending on living conditions. How do you know if your ramshorn snail is dead? Sometimes it can be hard to tell is your snails are just resting, sick, or have passed away. You can check to see if they are still with you by smelling them. If there is a foul odor coming out of their shell hen you will know they are deceased. You should do this regularly because any dead animal in a tank will start to make the tank toxic."
  4. snail fairy came...sorta like the grim reaper for people.
  5. how about the other water parameters? could have been a spike of something

    Filter Set Up?

purigen is a god like substance...sorta how those little Ferrero Rocher chocolates fall from the heavens... purigen is a filter media on arnold swartzenager type steroids... Purigen is actually a kick @$$ filter medium for organics etc etc etc. You want to polish water so the Queen will want to drink...use this. Go to Bigals...the best $ i've seen in Calgary. so far. 500g for mid $30. one of the best parts you can recharge it over and over.

    Filter Set Up?

    are you familiar with purigen?
  9. one of the things with a canister filter is the total distance the bubble must travel before it gets back into the tank. many feet vs a smaller HOB filter. give what Villisneria a try..use an air stone first.
  10. throw the rock in a clearish plastic bag keep 100% humidity and put in a bright location...window sill etc. no reason why it won't attach if doing something like that. btw, where did you get it...looks great! (heard of it being a carrier for planaria also) found here: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Fissidens-splachnobryoides-Live-Aquarium-Plant-BB-/260228328789?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3c96d12d55
  11. I also use the intake. Put it in the fuval 305, works like a charm. How many feet of hose...intake/return...the action of the filter materials. Not a poop comes out that you can see.
  12. need a good update that includes leds !
  13. How about some sort of fun contest? Perhaps staff make a topic asking members for ideas...and go from there.
  14. use a different water source...start to rule things out
  15. try this...buy a jug of RO/distilled etc water from the store...put it in...only half. and see what happens...next add the water conditioner with the 2nd half of that bought water and see what happens. try to start ruling out things
  16. Is it Edmonton city tap water? if so, going by your location given, south Edmonton...I would have a hard time to believe that there is a bacteria problem with your water...that would then mean you and everyone in that entire area are drinking water with such a bacteria. I'm no water engineer though...perhaps that area does have such an issue. Throw in some Purigen into your filter and see if that issue still happens. Perhaps there is something in your current tank water that reacts with what is being given in a standard water change. dunno
  17. change the 25% right now and take a before and after picture. does this happen instantly as you put in the water?
  18. the picture is very small..anything larger?
  19. could this 'cloudy water' be the little little bubbles? sounds like it is to me. to what your saying...I have that as well. no big deal.
