  1. ok thanx! I've added those options to my shopping list for Sunday (heading to Big Als) Plus I want to get some rocks to set the tree up more like you had it!
  2. Thank-you Kristarockstar! Do you happen to know what kind of moss you used (or anyone got an moss suggestions) to tie onto the tree? My moss wouldn't stay tied Now I have little balls floating around instead of 1 big one
  3. Just incase anyone is wondering, this boy is going to a new 180gal home this wknd w/another AA member! While I would love a couple Zebra pleco's I just can swing that in my fish budget right now due to all the purchases of aquatic plants, the 30gal tank & getting it set up the way I'd like.... I am going to wait or if the algae builds up more than the loaches can take care of I'll look at the bristlenose.
  4. edited; double post oops sometimes it's hard on my phone! Thank you Kristarockstar, for the offer of your tree! I can't wait to meet you today!!!
  5. I love the tree w/moss & rock tank!!! Infact I think I'd like to do the same w/my 30gal!!!!
  6. OK Jvision Maybe by the time he's 6" I'll have saved up enough $ to buy a dwarf zebra pair from Harold.... but who knows he is pretty beat up, even with some serious tlc he might not survive, but atleast I know I've given him the best shot.
  7. Wanted to add that if it really is the 1 that gets 17"+ it will be as the tank is just over 31" long....
  8. Ok thanx good to know I am getting good info! Guess I will give this guy some serious tlc & see. So the diff in size between the 2 varities those guys are thinking is 13-17". Will this pleco get too big for my 30gal?
  9. Hi, I had to run to the store to get cat food. The usual store was out of my brand so I went over to another.... They had this seriously unhappy pleco in with their feeder goldfish, the employee said they intended to have the pleco's in a different tank but it arrive damaged. So they threw them in with the overcrowded feeders. Said if I took the pleco I could have it for $5.99, I asked what size it'd grow too & she said they have them listed as good for 20-55gal tanks. I figured it'd be ok in my 30gal.... Now I'm curious what exactly I found... I posted on PlanetCatfish; here's the link to the thread. Are they on the right track? http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=37835
  10. Ok, I will figure out my schedule & then will send you a message!
  11. L46 is the # the other board member told me I was looking for. Thanx!!!
  12. Hey I'm on the hunt for either dwarf alligator or dwarf zebra pleco's, another board member told me you probably have the zebra's? I'm interested in 2 or 3
  13. very pretty I like Bob's coloring! I have a black & white fin tipped crowntail named Oreo, I did have a black female crowntail but she got attacked in the sorority & didn't survive. I considered breeding them. Might need to go looking for another!
  14. They are destructomaniacs, but despite that (& the fact that they are dirty) they are here to stay, even my hubby has been found in a quiet moment sitting in the livingroom staring at them & laughing at their antics. Right now I'm watching the pearlscale try to get into the corner that I've created a "goldfish" free zone for the loaches food, the smallest goldfish can't get behind there so there's no way he can! Oh now the shubnkin has come to chase him away... LOL it's such a nice way to start the day! While I suppose you could find ways to make it hard enough to deter them from uprooting, I figure I'll just accept defeat & have my betta boys tanks planted. They are good little fishies.. the only plants they play with are their Marimo Moss Balls & that's fun to watch!
  15. ARGH, the goldfish uprooted all the plants & started eatting the roots. I pulled them all out put it back the way it was with "fake" & am now in the process of planting my 2 male betta tanks with the live plants.....
  16. Teeheehee fishclubgirl! awesome, then you know to go back 10days later once they're out of quarentine!
  17. yes after his therapy this morning he came home unbundled & went right over to the goldfish tank! All my kids are involved in all our pets. The goldfish came into the house b/c of the oldest wanting them!
  18. My 3 year decided to play cars ON the goldfish tank, before I could get over to stop him all the fish lined up at the front & swam beside the truck across the tank, then turned & zoomed back to the other side to wait for the "truck to come back". I watched this go on for 10min & when my son had had enough he lined up his cars & trucks on the lip of the stand & the goldfish lined up facing the trucks! Oh my gosh I just about peed myself laughing! Honestly I know they are dirty fish, but I will put up with having to clean the tank more often than I have to do my betta tanks, if they'll continue to play with my son this way. (he's developmentally delayed & can at times be rough so the rest of our pets often hide from him)
  19. Pisces had a huge shipment come in, I got there when they opened yesterday & all their plant tanks were full! The 2 employees who helped me both have "cold-water planted tanks" & 1 has his own goldfish planted! It was honestly fun the 1 would say "this is a plant that doesn't do well in a heated tank" & the other said "no, goldfish will have that eatten in 10min". It was a riot. But I still came home with 5 big plants which I was actually able to break up! I wish I could post a picture but I shut down my webshots b/c I hate how they've revamped it. But if anyone wants to see a picture pm me I should still be able to attach to pms! I got Corkscrew Val, ludwigia glandulosa, alternanthera bettzickiana, sagittaria natans & then a dwarf narrow-leaf chain swordplant! They also set me up with Flourish Comprehensive Fertilizer & additional Iron (for the red plants)! Now my next step is to cut off the fake plants off my driftwood bubbler for sure & the rock cave possibly (those ones aren't as bad)! I can't stand looking at them beside the real plants!
  20. ok thanx for the tips, I'm going to do some thinking on where I can put a 45-50gal tank, but I actually have a friend who has an outdoor goldfish pond that is heated in winter, she was mentioning how a bunch of her goldfish were killed last fall by a wandering cat. I might see if she'd be interested in these guys if they outgrow this tank. She doesn't like Koi & hates paying the big $ to buy larger goldfish at the stores but the really little guys don't seem to last long in her pond. As for planting I'm going to try it in this one just for the heck of it & in my upstairs betta tank. If all goes well I'll consider the beta female sorority tank, but the other betta tank has a growing out clutch of mystery snail baby's so I don't think I'll bother trying to plant that one till all the baby's are gone.
  21. Jvision: Ok so if I do do it Java Fern is out, or alteast start with it to see & if it's being eatten I could start planting my Betta tanks LOL Jeremoose: we rescued some feeder goldfish from a friends cichlid tank, they managed to get so big they weren't food anymore they were play things. I took 3 (1 for each of my kids) b/c they have been begging for goldfish for years, & my friend took 2. They are only about 1.5-2" long including their tails. When I brought them home, the only tank I had easily available was my quarentine betta 2gal cube so all 5 of them lived in there till we both got 5.5gal set up, after a week with them still alive I'm setting up my spare 10gal. If they live & thrive I will upgrade to a 25-30gal. Eugene: could you please elaborate? My contacts at both Big Als & Pisces recommended the loaches to live with goldfish. SuperGuppyGirl: I know they're messy fish, but my kids wanted them. If they don't last long (which everyone is telling me including the guys at Big Als & Pisces) don't think they'll live long b/c everyone knows how bad feeder fish are kept in tanks in stores, then to be picked on by cichlids. then I'll look into the cold water community like you suggest, but all my research & talking to the guys at the stores suggests that this type of loach are most comfortable living in groups of 3-7 vs alone or in pairs.
  22. Ok so I've decided to take the plunge into the planted tank world. My experiment is my cycling 10Gal that will house my goldfish & hillstream loaches. It's overfiltered (Whisper for a 20-30gal tank) & I have a big airstone & pump, it's not heated but it should stay consistant about 20-21C So couple ? for everyone... how thick of a gravel base should I have, what types of weights are the books talking about using? My research has given me these plants as good "starter for in goldfish tank", am I on the right track? Java Fern, Water Sprite, Crypts becketii, corkscrew val & banana plant.
  23. This one is black spots w/out the line along the outside & a clear white belly. I am definately going to get atleast 1 more, as "Spot" is hiding under the filter rarely coming out. I'm guessing the definately are group fish!

    Hi I'm Back!

After a crazy summer of barely having any computer time aside from work, things have slowed down & I'm back to browsing the forums! We had some betta deaths over the summer unfortunately I've lost a few of my females as well as my 1 divided male tank that didn't have a surge protector yet the 2 boys got fried during a storm when I wasn't home. & Pretty Boy who was my SuperDelta male got sick & even with treatment he still didn't survive But my Veiltail male Fin & Crowntail male Oreo are still happy & swimming along. I have female betta sorority tank with 6 females. Plus I've still got Zebra Nerite Snails, Zebra Spixi Snails & some Mystery Snails which I've had a few golden clutches hatch from! then my 4th tank has just been set up as a cold water tank for 3 rescued common goldfish & Butterfly Loaches!
  25. there's a new scuba place that's just opened up in the strip mall on Main St North where Sears used to be. There's Global Pets, a Pizza 73, the Cigar Shop... you know the one I mean?
