  1. No.. added aquarium salt... we have paragaurd? One of my supervisors said we should have tried that first. I dont know much about paraguard. I think it might only deal with parasites? I told my manager that we probably just put one of our big touch tanks out of commission for the next couple weeks because we reset it and it will be doing funky things... bah. Im frustrated. i definately told her that I would do what she wanted me to but I said that I think they will all die. Now that we reset the tank the ammonia is high even though we put a lot of prime in it.. and she decided not to add the fish... soo...we did a 5 hour siphon to dilute it.. and added a bunch more prime...just makes me roll my eyes.. poor fishies. looks painful.
  2. also we tested the water in the tank before we reset it.. and because it is an established tank.. or was.. ammonia, nitrites and nitrates were not an issue.
  3. these koi are swimming funny in that their fins are ususally held in to their bodies. They swim then stop.. and float around awkwardly like they are dead.. turn sideways.. tip up. lay on the bottom.. they are all over the place. When you think they are dead you touch them and they come back to life like nothing was wrong.. They are about a foot long (ish). It has been about a week now.. and the fish are still like this. I took a picture of one of the Koi that died yesturday to post it and see if anyone can identify a reason why these Koi are doing this. I noticed them doing this swooping movement to scrape their sides on the gravel.. but they dont do it alot.. not enough for it to cause the fish to look like they do in the album that i posted. I think they have a bacterial infection. Let me know what you think. http://s1254.photobu...Fish%20Problem/ p.s. Not all the Koi look like this. The other Koi in the bag looked normal.. with the exception that where the fins connected to its body were a little red..
  4. I just got a 30 gallon given to me that has seen better days. I got the tank clean with water, a scrubber and a blade but I have two heaters, a filter and a lid and light fixture that is somewhat covered in the white crusty residue. Some of the parts I can soak in vinigar over night and try to get it clean. I am sort of scared of CLR but willing to try it if there is no other way. and a blade will not work on most of these parts. Any suggestions? They all still work fine otherwise! and for free why not?!?! Thanks!
  5. Im thinking I might try and breed bettas and see how that goes I have been doing some reading and it says to feed the fry live food. I live in red deer and the only thing i have seen that I can get are brine shrimp that you can hatch on your own? It also says that feeding them only brine shrimp will give them issues with swim bladder? any hints? I know i can get "fry food" that comes in a squirt bottle at petland? This seems to be the only barrier that I have found other than actually breeding them so far.

  17. I have a 6.6 gallon with a 13 Watt incandescent bulb. is that considered low, medium or high lighting in terms of which plants to choose from. Does anyone have and recommendations as to certain kinds of plants that would do well in a setup like this?
  18. I am planning to doing something neat with my 6.6 gallon. It has nothing in it and I was thinking of asking all you fish guru out there if I was to breed something (small) in this tank, what would be your recommendation. Other information is welcome also I love learning!
