  1. Haha ok so I take it there are a few. Good to know. I'm kind of just getting back into it after a while of being tankless so its good to know there are a few in the area. Anyonr specifically doing haps/peacocks? I used to do tropheus before, as well as a mbuna tank. Now I'm strictly haps/peacocks. Its taken a few months but I'm starting to track down a few nice fish one by one. I think kentucky is a little far for me to go and chat about fish lol. Maybe when I have a few more dollars burning a hole in my pocket lol. If anyone ever hears of some nice rare aulonocara in the area be sure to keep me in mind!
  2. Just wondering if there are any clubs or people (aside from Ace) who's interests cater directly to african cichlids- specifically haplichromines and aulonocara etc. It would be nice to just sit and talk about that new peacock you got or something from time to time. Be it online or hosting meetings at different houses and checking out the new stock/tank tours- talking about what you would like to see more of (species wise) and so on. Doesnt really seem to be any in wetaskiwin here unfortunately aside from my brother but hes right into tanganykans (spelling) my daughter loves her 'fishies' but shes still you so I can't really talk to her about it lol thanks for looking.
  3. Id think about it first. In my experience owning a few comps in the years the ones I fed feeders became more aggressive towards the smaller ones. Not sure if its just instinct or if its in fact linked but I think a good quality diet I.e. NLS supplimenting with frozen foods from time to time you shouldnt need to.
  4. whoops forgot to update this, I had spoke with him on a sunday morning via email, and asked to meet the following weekend and have a look, he said I will bring them to Edmonton tonight. I then replied asking to meet the next weekend, as we were down south, he never replied later in the week when I asked to meet. so we didn't -if he's lurking on the forum I would still love to come have a look one day.
  5. I think its close. Seems maybe these guys are a bit more yellow unless its my eyes haha. I want to find out what they are cause I'd love to breed some theyre super nice.
  6. Found these guys through some searching. Can't quite put my finger on what they are. The owner maintains that they are "african cichlid peacocks" I ask what species they say african. Anyway they are super beautiful and would like to find out if they are mutts or if they are actually a common peacock of some type. I though maybe Lwanda or similar, a friend thinks maybe red shoulder Here's a pic of the males
  7. First time at the auction, it was neat but am a little disappointed to be honest. I thought I would see more "show" peacocks but it was mostly juvies and breeding groups. That and the brand new lcd temperature probe I picked up doesnt work lol. Oh well maybe next time there will be a better selection of male peacocks. I mean they were nice but breeding isnt really for me :-P
  8. Only thing is that guys avatar is an albino hence the red eyes.
  9. You can add as you find fit. But there are some rules I generally follow with all africans. New fish should be added in groups of at least 2-4+ and always a bit larger then the existing fish.
  10. Personally it looks like it could be a hybrid to me. Probably sunburst or dragon blood crossed with something else. Lol tough to say cause aside from color there doesnt seem to be any distinguishing trates or markings on him
  11. I don't think its sunburst the color is similar but seems to be missing the white crestline. I would definitely say that its a close guess though. I would start by looking at species closely related to sunbursts I like this site. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/ The gold hybrid looks similar but i wouldnt say for sure that is it. If you look there they have several species listed with behaviours/info/pics
  12. Just a pointer. Although texas holey rock is nice looking if you're going to spend that much on rock for cichlids you might as well get the right stuff guys. Granite is fairly predominant in lake malawi and is super cheap at most landscaping or rock supply ~45ยข/lb I just picked some up from our place in town which was on its last day of the season. Think I spent $5 lol and have a good little aquascape for my peacocks. I think I looks more natural too. Check it out if you like. The smaller pieces are generally referred to as railway ballast as its the same size as what is used on the tracks 6" I believe. And then you can pick larger pieces as well see below.
  13. Just thought I'd post a few pictures of my tank here. I would do it in the member journal but doesnt seem to let me. Its been running 5+ weeks now slowly getting it stocked. Here it is My 60g 36x24x16 It is drilled for the canisters rather then having the tubes in the tank. And the lights are 2 panorama pro 12k white/blue led strips Stillc stocking but here's how it looks for now.
  14. Hmm good to know, I was thinking "man I hope I don't have to shell out $100's for a few peacocks lol.
