  1. :welcome: to AA What are you starting with and where do you hope to go?
  2. I do think the fish may acclimatize to lower oxygen levels, I would be concerned that this might keep them under some constant stress. Are they looking like they are still mouth breathing? If not you might be just fine and things settled down for you. As for returning fish to a tank that might be a bit warmer, IMO it's fine. Where I've seen problems is when introducing them to colder water. When I transport fish I want to get them out of the bags asap. I add them straight to the tanks if their bag water is a bit cooler, no floating either. I haven't lost any fish doing this.
  3. Because these are things that members bring in , I could not say (predict). There usually is some stuff salty. We do have members that keep SW so we can only hope .
  4. Aren't the loonies usually there? Yes I will be lol
  5. Aquarium Club of Edmonton Members bring in Fish, aquariums and equipment, aquarium plants , books etc. Only members can sell , anyone can bid. Bring cash and lots of small bills and coin. ( loonies / twonies).

  7. I have no interest in them for myself , my daughter wanted them . They are cute little things though lol . I'm by no means a purist, I do however generally keep non hybrids ( at least not known to me). I don't really care that much about the issue, I simply would prefer closer to wild type fish. And yes I do like my big nasties and I'm aware I really don't know if some of those are "hybrids", don't care lol . It's a shame that fish would be chemically treated, I suppose they are a "product" for market, it's business.
  8. :welcome: to AA I'm inviting you to take a trip to our fair city for our ACE club auction on October 25th. I'll be posting more info possibly tomorrow. You'll meet awesome people, get to bid on great fish and all around have a good time. I guarantee you there will be africans and very spectacular specimens, always are. There are usually a few salty related things, equipment and all sorts of freshwater fish. I hope to see you there. Sue
  9. Is the 55 a deeper tank than the others? Deep tanks run the risk of low oxygen usually because the lower levels of water aren't pushed around the tank . Your HOB was probably plunging enough to get this done for you . Another solution might be to add a powerhead to move the water.
  10. I picked up those two blood perrots from MOP. After their QT period I moved them to my community tank (malekrib., loaches, plattys, couple of blue firemouths, severums.etc), I know odd mixes lol . Well these two picked out and claimed a cave. Low and behold they've laid eggs. I don't expect fry but who knows, weirder things have happened. BTW, my daughter named them Spike and Gizmo.
  11. Frequent water changes, tight fitting lid and new carbon in the filters every two to three weeks. If you keep your room warm you may not need heaters in the tank and that may also lessen the level of humidity.
  12. Isn't that something lol . Sorry you're having issues with the little "innocent" ones lol. I like the large nasties myself , I know they'll be a$$holes.
  13. Are they out of their shipping bags? If not , switch them over to clean water. You could always put them in a bowl/container and float that in their new tank . The temp will even out itself. You may want to add salt to their new tank to try and prevent ICH.
  14. I won those last meeting, If you need some wafers Sue I can bring you a baggie of them. We will be there tomorrow. Ok
  15. What color was the purigen? Was it cleaned with bleach before? Could it have still contained bleach? Did you clean out your filter? It does sound like your filter had a crash , tank going through a cycle again. I'd add some good bacteria from another healthy tank to help reestablish your bacterial colony.
  16. Def. QT those tanks , do not use the same nets etc. between tanks. It is best IMO to do a large water change and start the salt/heat treatment. This will treat the fish as well as it's environment . The ich. isn't killed while on the fish it is killed while in it's free swimming stage. There are likely several generations in your tanks. The clean water and the salt will help the fish.
  17. You're an inspiration . Gorgeous family you have there.
  18. "emergency tank"? how often do they catch fish? lol Lucky Pooh
  19. the fish will grow. Their DNA dictates not the tank size. They will get weak /sick being in an over crowded tank .They grow deformed . Good luck with them .
  20. Any of the larger SA , green terror, red terror, red devils, escondido, even the CA texas cichlid is really pretty. You could build it up with large driftwood and fake plants. Well anchored of course as they all dig lol . Good luck it'll be fun .
