  1. "--Hello. We are asking $30 each for the 25 gallon tanks and $1/ gallon for the 15-20s. We are located 55 minutes west of Saskatoon. Thanks Trent" I inquired and that was his response if anyone is interested. Sue
  2. My catfish did a similar thing to me the otnher night. I took the wood pieces out of the aquarium to catch some baby plecos. I shook each piece to get every rider off before removing it. From the big bucket I could hear the "croaking" of the raphael. When I investigated, he had wedged himself up between thesides of a large crack in the wood. With all his pointy /pokey rays, this critter wasn't backing out. Crap!!!!! Off to the bathtub we went. I tried desperately to break the wood, nothing. I tried flushing him out, nothing. I went to hubbies wookroom to fing a cutting tool, no sign of a wood saw, only a metal one. Crap!!!! Ok found 2 huge screwdrivers! Now I spent the next 20 minutes trying to pry the wood open and finally after thinking I had stabbed the poor critter ! the wood gave and this poorthing reluctantly was freed. Yes he made it. My nerves we shattered though. I couldn't believe I had come down to panic when it came to saving his life. Goes to show you, we get pretty attached and feel VERY responsible for their well being.
  3. Tuan is the person who I bought juvies from , so he would know about breeding them. What he has advised me about is the well being of other rams in the tank. Hesaid once they've paired off, they will try to illiminate all other rams, if not just really bullied , but even kill them. How big is your tank, are there other rams in there and do they have tons of hiding places? Other then that, Congrats!!!!!!

    gggrrr

The only problem I ever have with restarting is it seems the impeler just stops. The motor is going but not the impeler. Unplug, drain it and then take it appart(housing off the motor). Take a soft brush, pull the impeller out and give it and the shaft a quick cleaning. Reassemble it, refill it , plug it in and see if it starts, if not , just poke at the impeller and it should start. Once the impeller is going and there is water in the filter, the intake is in the water, the rest should simply proceed. When it stops, poke at the inpeller, I use a popcicle stick or even my finger.

In Edmonton, the store right next to Aquagiant (sorry can't think of the name right now) , has Nuflez Aquarium sealant 333, for 6.00 a tube. It is recommended for aquariums 400l or less though(100gal). I will inquire if they would bring in the GE stuff if it would be recommended for all sizes larger than that. ....Cascade I believe.
  6. I am glad some people have too many fish or change their interests, this way people like me can try new fish and broaden my horizons. It was "free convicts" that led me to try cichlids. From there I've now got africans, south american and new worlds in my various tanks. "Free chocolate cichlids", who new they existed? , but now I have them and LOVE them. "Free bumble bee", he's one of my favourites! He chucks pebles at the glass if I haven't fed him soon enough. As for responding quickly.... if you are not fast enough, you lose out on a great oppertunity. I personally did not respond to the free discus, only because I'm not ready for that type of relationship, lol. (read commitment). I am not that far from responding to "free coral" or "free live rock/sand". In a year or two I think I will want to try marine. Until then KEEP POSTING FREEBIES!!!!!! And thank you for the chance to give it a shot. Sue
  7. Hey Christian, I agree that one is really nice. Place your bid, it's on 46 right now. I thought of having one made, I know this artist/blacksmith. He's making me a stand for my 70gal. So far the drawings look awesome, I'll share pics when it's done.
  8. Went to see the website, saw the star trecky thing and thought how cool is that!!?!! I first thought it might be a fish bubble too! But it's not I would have bought that for my treky hubby to put a betta in had it been a mini fish tank lol You know it could be........ ....and it wasn't me with the upbidding lol

  11. Any ornament needs to have the same charactoristics as substrate, it needs to be inert. Anything that is straight clay based such as teracota is good and is porous so will grow algea. If it is glazed it must be lead free glaze, so ornaments made for aquarium are, and home made can be too. Plastics are OK but resins are not. Those lawn and garden ornaments Walmart sells , deteriorate quickly and release toxins. You can use slate, granite and most any natural tiles you can get at flooring outlets, non glazed though as they may be lead glazes. Glass is good too.
  12. You'll want to check if the canadian stores carry this also.
  13. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_det...030064&Ne=2 I don't remember who it was who was looking for some , but I came accross this in a petsmart website.

  16. Thanks Christian. Any experimrnts done on these guys? Anything I can add that may make them even more nutricious? ( was thinking crushed NLS) lol
  17. At this month's ACE meeting they covered live foods. I came home with a starter of micro worms. Anyone with ideas on what may work best to culture these? Container sizes? Clear or opaque containers ok? Cooked oatmeal, sprinkle of yeast....anything that may not get as smelly? If you start more than one culture, can you increase the culture's lifespan by keeping it cold? Does the container need to breath ?(poked holes) Do the fish eat the oatmeal mash if you happen to scrape some of it into the water? Is yeast bad for fish? Should one "clean" off the worms in a beeker of water then feed with eyedropper?
  18. LMAO ! That's seems to be the problem...eyes out lol
  19. It was mentioned the other night that water softener salt can also be used

:welcome: to AA  have a cold one
  21. If you still have a green water problem I know of club members who would really like to take bags of it off your hands. They use it to feed to Daphnea (spelling not sure). Live food to condition their breeders and feed to the new hatched fry.
  22. I'm very glad they're good guys as I had swept the sand through a green net and brought out at least 300 or more and those were 1/2 inch +. The teeny babies are still in there lol. I added some to a couple other tanks. I'll be sure to bring a few to the next auction. Bid big bucks and bring'em home

  25. I brought in a few plants a couple months ago and now have this "bloom" of a thousand snails. They are the ones that are pointy, long and have a few freckles on them. Here's a close up shot of some of the shells floatingafter I left them out of the tank to dry up.
