  1. Have noticed some frisky fish in my planted community, so I'm working on setting up tanks for Tiger Barbs and Cherry Barbs first time for me, so we'll see if anything comes of it
  2. Managed to get in to Aquarium Central this weekend and had a great experience with them. Thanks all for the recommendations - hopefully next time I'll have more time to check them all out
  3. Thanks so much for the quick replies!! You've been amazing! Mainly looking for ferts and plants - so I'll see if I can squeeze several stores into our "travel plans" - right now Aquarium Central looks very likely Shopping here I come!!! :&
  4. Going into Edmonton this weekend and am looking for some good plant/fish stores in the city. Will mainly be on the Northside and maybe WEM area. But any suggestions would be great! thanks all!!
  5. I've been carting my water in from "the city" for my aquariums, and my other half & I are about ready for some options. :P So, I was wanting to get my water tested, and see if it may be suitable, pre or post filtration for the fishies & plants, either in part or all together. What should I be looking for? Out of the tap it is slightly yellowish and smells sulfur-y. I have a 60 Gallon, a 10 Gallon, and am looking at setting up a 5 Gallon & Bowl in the near future. Fish: Neon Tetras, Glowlight Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, Tiger Barbs, Harlequin Rasboras, Cherry Barbs, Bettas & an Apple Snail. (also looking at ghost shrimp, cardinals, otocinclus & upside down catfish) Plants: Corkscrew Vals, Java Moss, Dwarf Sag, Frogbit, Anubias Nana, "?" Anubias, & Mystery plant. thank you very much! Brittany
  6. Have fun with it!! Will need pics when it's set up! (after the addition lol )
  7. I wish I took before and after pics of mine I'm pretty sure there has been some change, but I didn't imagine they could change THAT much!
  8. Sounds like you're jumping right in! Have fun with your Mbunas! =D
  9. Welcome back (to the hobby)!
  10. I only have Bettas ATM, so I do have them named (Bentley & Mercedes-lol) but I think once I get fish I can't tell apart I won't bother. :P

    Your Tanks

That is an awesome piece of driftwood & I love what you did with the pennywort!! (that is it on the DW, right?) I hope this thread gets up and going again - I love the planted tank photos!
  13. My name's Brittany, 23, I live in Cold Lake, AB I'm very new to the whole fish thing, got my first Betta in February & my second soon after (before I knew what "cycing" was :/ ) and now I'm looking to start a small (10 gallon) low-tech planted tank. I joined plantedtank.net - but there wasn't much for people nearby (or even Canadians) so I was looking for something a lot more local. looking for plants to start up (LPS isn't able to get what I want...) & lots of info, as I REALLY want an upgrade! (eventually want tanks in the 100s) Currently own 2 Betta (males, veils) in 5 gallon aquariums & am looking to start up a planted 10 gallon, with amano shrimp, otocinclus catfish, a Betta (depends on my boys' manners) or some small schooling fish. For plant species I'm looking for are Brazilian Pennywort, Anubias Nana Petite & possibly more as I find them is there anyone actually from Cold Lake? thanks! Brittany
