  1. I was thinking that I see alot of broken tanks at Big Al's, I was thinking about buying some of those tanks if the prices is right. I want to replace the broken glass and use them for a fish room. Also what kind of cheep sand can I buy, can I just use sand bags. If I want to get something other that sand can I use rock chips. I want to breed Cichlids, Discus, guppys, mollies, bettas, gourami and eventaly try corydoras, tetras and Plecos. What should I use for fillters, I was thinking about using AC minis on the adult tanks, and under gravle and/or sponge fillters on the fry tanks. Would it be bad to drill in over flows and do 4 diferent systems. Brad
  2. Those fish are great. What are they, my wife says that they look like a discus african cichlid mix. Brad
  3. Here's a wild thought....what if it was plumbed some way to an outside window? That would work in the winter but I was thinking more summer. Brad
  4. I think that a chiller will still be needed, even in a cool room it can still get a little too warm for a cold water tank. Brad
  5. I would say go with the new LED lights. I did the math one day and the cost of the new 250 w MH bulbs and 55w PC atinic bulbs, changing you MH every 6 months and you atinics every year would cost you the same to buy one of these LED lights. LED lights The math works out like this, LED lights $3539.00 LED fixture Life 50,000 = 50,000 at 12 hours a day 365 days a year = 11.41 years 6' MH and PC light fixture A six foot tank needs 3 250w 10,000k MH lights $1499.95. Replacement bulbs for the MH are 94.95 each times 3 times 2 times 11.5 = 6551.55 96w attinic bulbs Replacement bulbs for the PCs are 52.95, 4 times 11.5 = 608.93 total $8660.43 total savings of $5121.43 Brad

  16. Agreed, with a tank that size you need to fix it properly. 300 is robbery! Here is a pic of the crack. I will try and get a better pic tommorow I will have to move my van. That is the cheapest place for the glass so far. I dont know where eles to get glass in edmonton. Crystal was about $500. Brad

  20. I bought a 6' 160g tank last week, and when my Dad drove it out here to Wainwright he left the heat on it the back of the van, needles to say with the -30 temps it broke the back panel of the tank. I would like to fix this as cheaply as possible but with out the risk of the tank exploding all over my basement floor. I was thinking of getting two pieces of 1/8" glass to and silicone them in on the both sides of the tank if that would be cheaper. If not to replace the whole panel how dose it need to be thicker glass. The tank has a two centre braces it the frame, the frame is cracked on the corners. I want to have the tank fixed after Christmas. Also anyone know where I can get a piece of glass that is 72"x30" and 1/2" and know how much it will cost. Brad

I found this thing in my tank that looks like a caterpillar, it took two leaves from my plants and stuck them to the glass some how. it looks like a green fuzzy caterpillar that you find in your back yard, but in my tank. Anyone have an Idea what it could be? I tried to take a pic of it but they did not turn out. I will try some more when I get off work tonight. Brad
