  1. If they don't we maybe able to rig you up one! (We use em in the making of home brew out in the garden shed) Dave
  2. Is your ex a redneck? If so as long as she has at least one front tooth (this is handy for opening beer bottles) Please feel free to send her my way. My addy is third trailer over from the dumpsters, Forest Lawn Trailer Park Dave
  3. I am a redneck ......... I am going to have a redneck tank complete with newspaper background and an alternator and starter sitting in the gravel!
  4. Yes, she is the only one. After much thought I suspect she is stressed because there are no other barbs and it is possible she has ich Thank you very much for your input. It is much appreciated Dave
  5. I would think the shells would start to break down (rot/compost) after a while. Probably not the best thing for your fishtank Just my two cents worth! Dave
  6. Bless you for saving these fish (sounds like something I would do). I am curious did they charge you full price for your two friends? Dave
  7. We are currently using Aquaclear (hang on the side) filters and powerheads with foam filters. The tanks look great (with the 20% a week water changes) they are very clean What do you folks think of the powerhead/foam sponge combo? Good or bad your opinion please! Dave
  8. Where part of Greater Vancouver you from Street? (I lived in Poco and Mission for 30 years before I came to Calgary) Dave
  9. We just got a bunch of fish and are finding places to put them all. Currently the 40 gallon tank is a bit overloaded with tetras but we found ich and I am reluctant to move them until I am sure the disease is gone. We are currently treating the tank with raised temperature (to 82) and with salt There is one Rosy Barb which is clearly distressed. He/she is continually swimming the length of the tank, back and forth, back and forth Do I move her now or until I am sure the ich problem has been taken care of? It bothers me she is so stressed Your input please Dave
  10. Hi Folks! We are a couple here in Calgary which have (re)discovered the fun of having aquariums. It all started when Tammy had to quit smoking. I challenged her and suggested she spend her time with fish. Well, things have grown and in four months we have 325 fish in 13 tanks (so far). We have several more to set up over the next few months. We are both animal lovers and the fish in our posetion are well cared for (she says it takes 42 minutes in the morning to feed, check all the equipment is running and make sure everyone is doing ok). I always get a bit of a chuckle when she gets all worked up over one fish not getting along with another. (They usually settle things out in a few hours or we move him/her). Our living room is currently overflowing with tanks as we got rid of a couch and loveseat as well as other furniture in order to make room. For seating there is a computer chair and futon. We joke with our friends suggesting if they are to visit they should bring a chair! LOL! The bedroom is nearly maxed out and our next few tanks will likely go into the kitchen. The cats have wondered what the heck happened as all of their "sleeping" places are now gone. They appear to be just as interested in the fish as we are ..... usually sitting on a ledge or stand watching what we are doing. Luckily they have not yet "caught" any fish lol. Right now we have a wide assortment of tetras and the usual community tank fish, bettas, loaches and even a few frogs and shrimp. I suspect in the future we will be trading (or giving away) some of the more common fish and consentrating on some of the more "exotic" types (such as discus and angels). For now we have our hands full. Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year and dont forget to give your dog or cat a hug and kiss today! Dave
  11. I got your email this morning but you did not provide me with a return addy . I would like to talk to you Dave
  12. What do I feed Cherry Shrimps? Dave
  13. Cleaning calcium from old tanks is quite the chore. I use vinegar but it still takes quite a bit of scrubbing Does anyone have any ideas on what may work better? Dave
  14. I think the question is a legitimate one. Of course if you have the time to wait you could ask for more. If you don't lower you go the quicker it will sell We got a hell of a deal a month ago: 80 gallon tank with canopy and canister filter for $80. WOO HOO!!!! If I had the cash I would jump at your deal !! Not only do I not have the cash I don't have the space either Dave
  15. When I was much younger I was into aquariums and had nothing but undergravel filters. It seemed to be the craze at the time. (Then I discovered sex, drugs and rock N roll ...... oh yeah and cars too) We are getting back into the aquarium scene to find some people have no time for undergravel filters. What are your thoughts? Are undergravel filters good or bad? Over rated???? Lets hear from you! Dave
