  1. I don't think I would put Angels or Discus with a big pleco as I have had a 8 inch pleco attack my angels at night when they are resting. The plecos try to eat the slime coat off of them. But I have had no problems with clown loaches, black skirt tetras, gold skirt tetras, gold barbs, rosy barbs etc... JMO Tammy
  2. Uh oh...where do I find brine shrimp?? Anybody have a hatchery going that I could get some from?? I still see egg sac on them, but not much. . I will try to find some of the better than brine shrimp food as I would love to try and raise these guys! They are getting moved to their own tank tonight with an established sponge filter and water from the parents tank.....I really don't wanna do the brine hatchery with 14 tanks on the and working, I have my hands full! Tammy
  3. Hi all, I have about 200 angel fry in a 33 community tank...wondering if they will make it there or do I have to move them? They are just wrigglers... not free swimming yet...the parents are looking after them really well and they have just recently moved them to a new spot. (boy is daddy ever protective!) I am just wondering if I need to move them outta there. They are in with 6 bronze cories, 3 clown loaches(little) and 2 clown plecos. Oh and 1 columbian tetra. Any and all feedback would be helpful as this is my fist batch to make it past the egg stage. Thanks in advance! Tammy
  4. AWW Sorry to hear about your loss Vapor. I agree it is probably hardest losing a loach. Was he the smallest of your loaches? I find my smallest sometimes gets picked on or kept from food by the bigger guys. Tammy
  5. Looks great Connie! That flame angel is HOT! Everybody looks right at home. Tammy
  6. Hi Neil, He is doing really well. I think maybe he was just maturing because it is only the outer trim on all fins that has turned clear...the rest of his fins and body is a deep solid orange and he has a huge appetite! He would eat till he burst if I let him! On another note, Katherine also told us that the colored gravel that comes with most betta kits is toxic to Bettas! Never knew that. So all our Bettas are in empty bottom bowls now. She also introduced me to almond leaves for the Bettas. They really show a marked improvement with the leaves added to their space. Up to 16 bettas now. Have some breeding action starting in our half moons so we will see if they produce. Katherine was very helpful with breeding tips and general care. Can't say enough nice things about her...she is amazing! Tammy
  7. Awesome Connie! I know how hard to find they are! I finally got 1 when a friend bought a tank and didn't want the fish it came with...she wanted guppies and tetras so we traded! I definetly got the better deal...Now if I could just find some chocolate angels Tammy
  8. I have all of my Bettas on NLS now...they kinda got spoiled with bloodworms I went to visit Katherine Stewart (amazing woman) and she said the orange colored Bettas often lose color in their fins...she's not sure why. On the up side, we picked up a breeding pair of half moons and a breeding pair of silver plakats, and a royalblue marble half moon combtail all for $60.00!! What a steal! Anybody looking for some amazing bettas...Katherine is the person to contact as she has everything on sale super cheap right now. Tammy
  9. My convicts have never moved their eggs...they often move the babies all over the place but they have their own tank. Maybe having tankmates has made them more nervous. hope this helps Tammy
  10. I would definitely leave them with their parents for a few weeks. I don't think many fish will mess with the parents as they are quite aggressive when they have babies. :chair: Tammy
  11. Cool pics Jonah...except the spider.....ewwww! Now I know what to look for if/when my group start to breed. Do you know how old my little ones are and how old are they when they start to breed? They sure are active...patrolling their new territory...they are soooo cute! Thanks again, Tammy
  12. I have a 20g set up with 4 Brichardi cichlids in it...do you think I could add some Danios to it for some activity at the top of the tank? I am worried the Brichardi will tear em apart...anybody try this before? If not..what else could I add in there? Thanks in advance. Tammy
  13. I have 3 Blue rams in with an Angelfish and some Green Eye Rasboras and they all get along well. I have added quite a few plants (amazon swords, vals, etc) and the Rams seem happier than before I had plants in there. They also seem to appreciate some driftwood as that is what they are laying their eggs on! Hope this helps! Tammy
  14. HI all you cichlids experts... I have 3 Yellow Labs holding fry...This is my first time with cichlids so I am wondering how to strip the babies from them? And when to do it? 2 of them have been holding for about a week and a half and the other one for about 5-6 days. I would like to raise the fry this time as the last batch got eaten I believe. One is getting rather thin and I am worried about her. Thanks for your time. Tammy
  15. He isn't very old...my guess would be under a year old. Tammy
  16. I have a Orange Plakat Betta male that seems to be losing color in his Dorsal fin...Anyone know what would cause this? It isn't fungus or anything like that...just turning from orange to clear. He is otherwise healthy and active and eats like a piggie. He is in a half gallon betta bowl and gets a 100% water change every 4-6 days...I also add betta remedy at every water change. Feeding him freeze dried bloodworms and occasionally frozen bloodworms. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Tammy
  17. It was mostly the serpae tetras doing the nipping at the loaches..I was rather surprised because the loaches are huge compared to the serpaes! I have 7 serpaes and mostly they are peaceful with the other fish...occasionally pick on each other but...they had a loach vendetta I guess. Once they started picking on them, the gold skirts and even a minnow got in on the action! I think I will try a few of my cories and see how that goes...if that fails, send in the clowns! Tammy
  18. I am with Wendy on the beer thing...ewwww! But chicken wings would be good! Ummm and no fish sticks k? -roll- Tammy
  19. Does the City of Calgary add chlorine or chloramine to our tap water? Does anyone know? Thanks
