  1. Figured I'd just add my question to this thread since it's relevant. I've been reading about gallons/hour (requirements for specific tank sizes) and how the filter rating is sometimes listed with and without media. I've been offered an Eheim Ultra G90 - 2073 Pro 3 Canister Filter with the following ratings. Do you think this is reasonable for a heavily planted 65 gallon tank? Eheim Ultra G90 - 2073 Pro 3 Canister Filter - Technical Specifications: For Tank Size: 350 l (92 gallons) Pump Output: 1050 ltr/hr (276 gal/hr) Canister Volume: 7.4 ltr (1.95 g) Delivery Head: 1.8m Filter Volume: 4.5 ltr + 0.5 (pre-filter) (1.31 g) Power Consumption: 16 w Dimensions: 400mm x 290mm x 240mm
  2. I think her concern is that since it doesn't fit properly, the stand wasn't meant for a tank this size and therefore may not hold up.
  3. Great, thanks guys, this was exactly what I pitched yesterday. The only challenge with this idea is convincing my (already skiddish) wife this is safe for our three year old. Thanks again!
  4. Hey gang, Just got a new glass rimless tank and stand off Kijiji. Problem is.... the tank is is 48" x 16" x 20" (approx 65 gallons) but the stand is about 48" x 13.5" x 29". The tank sits about an inch off the front and back of the stand. Didn't think it would be a big issue but after some more reading I see it is. Just thought I'd check here for confirmation that I should just proceed to sell this stand and find a larger one? Any advice is appreciated.
  5. Dude at Gold's Aquarium convinced me to get a Clown Pleco a week ago. It's like not having a Pleco at all. Haven't seen him since I put him in. Just a lot more poop around. Honestly not sure I'll keep him at this point. Might look for a trade and find something a little more active and... visible!
  6. I can't find any info about this auction, just keep seeing people mention it. Can someone tell me more? Where and when? Thanks.
  7. I had a single powder blue Dwarf Gourami in with a number of species including Rasboras, Tetras, Neon Blue Guppies, and a Black Fin Cory, and no problems at all. They all get along quite well. I've never seen any aggression from the Gourami.
  8. Thanks all! Appreciate the welcome. Looking forward to the CAS meeting now too. What is a "mini auction" exactly?
  9. Hi gang, New here and wanted to introduce myself. I was referred here by Shrimp Chick who I just met the other night, when I purchased some lighting from her hubby off Kijiji. I joined the freshwater aquarium hobby about a year ago now when I moved to Calgary after 20 years in Banff. I purchased a 20 gallon tank from Kijiji and have learned a lot of lessons. You can read about it hear if you're interested: http://www.myaquariumclub.com/robwhughes/blog/ I've been reading, researching and watching Youtube vids (I'm a fan of Dustin's Fishtanks as well), 'soaking' up as much as I can. I'm primarily interested in freshwater aquascapes and planted tanks. I'm now planning an upgrade to a much larger tank (55 - 75 gallon, don't think the wife will go for a 120) which will feature a more advanced aquascape. I'm very excited to get started but for now I'm slowly purchasing items from a long checklist to distribute budget over several months in order to make it a little more affordable. Hoping to make it out to the Calgary Aquatic Society next Tuesday for the first time. In the meantime, I look forward to meeting others here and learning from you. All the best, Rob Hughes Calgary, AB PS. Feel free to follow me on Instagram as well, I've met many aquarists here recently too. http://instagram.com/robwhughes
