  2. Just got back from the post office... was hoping they would have it. They said without the delivery notice they would have to sort through 5000+ brown boxes to look for one with my name on it. The notice and the box will have the same code, but without the notice to match he wouldn't have time to look for it. He was the only one working and he said he would be away from the till too long. He did say that there should be a notice and to look for it. They are usually inside my mail box but I had looked everywhere for it, even outside my condo in case it was placed outside for some reason. Canada Post website states that a notice may not be left if the mail box was inaccessible or the postman ran out of notices. Also it states that an item may not be delivered if it is oversized for the community mailbox and the residence is more than 500m from the mailbox. Neither of these should apply. My apt isn't half a kilometer from our mailbox, it is accessible, and he shouldn't have run out of notices for every parcel that doesn't fit in our mailbox (seems to happen everytime). I don't have problems with Purolator, UPS, or FedEx. Wish these were options when ordering. It almost seems that it is easier for him/her to carry the bag of mail to the condo mailboxes, but having to go to various condos to deliver things is too much work. They will say they tried to deliver and then I will get the notice the next day or the day after with my regular mail. I can't wait to live in a house.
  3. We have made complaints. I am in a condo downtown and the people here have had lots of issues. Especially during holidays. Nothing seems to change. I guess they get their day done quicker if they just say they tried to deliver and get people to come pick things up the next day. Good thing is I got a hold of ShrimpFever, explained the situation and they said they will still uphold their 100% guarentee. The guy I talked to seemed very nice and said they make sure their customers are happy. So I recommend that place. They have more than just shrimp too (plants, fish, and other goodies). Located in Scarborough Ontario.
  4. Recently I was trying to find anyone who had blue neocaridina shrimp. Called around and checked forums. Found that the prices local shops are selling this variety are more expensive than if I ordered them online and got them shipped overnight. I decided this is what I would do. I ordered from ShrimpFever and they guy called me and gave me a deal. They shipped out yesterday and were to arrive today. I was watching the tracking like a hawk and signed up for email notifications. I am home all day. Don't have the TV on or anything loud that I might miss my buzzer. I get an email stating that the item was attempted delivery and a notification card was left stating where the parcel can be picked up. I immediately went red. They didn't attempt nothing and I went to look and there isn't any notification card. I know where my parcels usually go so I called the local London Drugs postal depot and gave the tracking number. The lady wasn't very pleasant and stated that I can pick the parcel up tomorrow after 1pm but usually they are not ready till after 3pm. I asked her if there is any way I can pick it up tonight and she said no, but gave me the 1800 to see if I can get it redirected. Talked to them and they basically told me the same thing. They even had the audacity to suggest that I probably didn't hear them knock. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I have had parcels arrive very late with no notification cards and then suddenly one day in the mailbox are notifications that state they tried to deliver days ago, when both me and my gf were home. Also, I have had things delivered only to get a notification 2 days later that there was a parcel to pick up and I go to find out what it is and they can't locate it. I have to call the 1-800 only to find it was something I already received. It was only a few weeks ago that I had made a plant order and one of my parcels was a week and half late. When I got it I talked to the postman and he said he doesn't normally do this run and he was taking over for someone who took the day off. He said that it was marked oversized and probably didn't even try to deliver it because it didn't fit in the mailbox and assumed that I wasn't home because it was during work hours. That order had moss and some other plants. The moss all died. Luckily the other plants survived. Glad I paid $60 for overnight priority shipping for someone to not even try to deliver it. If they are dead tomorrow when I get them, I bet the shrimp company won't see this as part of their 100% guarantee overnight, because it has an attempted delivery. I contacted them to find out and ask if they arrive dead can they make a ticket to get the money reimbursed. So ticked off!
  5. Did everyone who pledged get the email survey on if you wanted the remote version or regular? He did say on the kickstarter that they were going to offer different colours, including one that was clear plastic. I didn't see an option to choose. The black look was fine for me. I hope that is what I get.
  6. I got the one with the remote. I didn't want it sitting on the edge of my tank. Should work the same as a pH controller, except that this gives exact readings of CO2 and not ball parking it based on pH/KH and other parameters. It reaches its set mark, then turns off the solenoid which prevents CO2 leaving the cylinder. Once CO2 concentration drops it sends a signal to the solenoid to open again. I haven't seen how it all hooks up, but I would think that the solenoid plugs into the OCO unit the same way a pH controller hooks up to a solenoid on a regulator. Not sure how else it would work.
  7. I agree it looks like chocolate neocaridina variety
  8. After some research on what I may like. I am thinking blue dream or blue diamond or carbon rilli. I am wondering if you put carbon rilli and blue dreams together will you ensure blue and the rilli pattern. The carbon rilli's have black heads and tails. They are neo's so they breed easy and are hardy. Saw a few places online that sell them but with shipping and each shrimp is $8 to $10, to get around 15 shrimp would be close to $200. Pisces had some dark blue shrimp but they were in a tank that said fire red cherry. There was only 2 left and I asked what they were and the guy didn't know which ones they were. He said they must have gotten out of their section. Then he told me they are $16 a shrimp by finding the sticker that said blue with the highest price. That particular tank was packed full of spirogyra algae. I had gotten that algae in my tank before and after trying everything the only thing that killed it off was dosing my whole tank with some peroxide and then hitting it with a high dose of excel. Lost about 15% of my shrimp doing that and my riccia. Don't want to risk that again. I will have to try to check the shops as they get shrimp in or when they are off quarantine. I am in a condo downtown and renting.
  9. the GH was an estimate based on my liquid dropper kit. It goes blue and its hard for me to tell but its on the higher end between 150-200. Calgary tap water is very hard. I have some dip sticks too and they show GH has on the higher end of the scale (not super accurate those sticks). At night when the lights are off, I get 24C or 76F. I hope my new lights lower the temp of the tank. The only other way to lower it is using a chiller, but I am not going that route. The lights on there currently are resting on the rim of the tank. They are aquaticlife fixtures attached together. They have plastic legs for them to raise them up, but my cats keep jumping on the tank and breaking the legs. The hood I have for the tank rests on the legs putting pressure on them too and break after a while. Since I had gone through my 4th time purchasing new legs, I decided to rest the fixture on the rim and then I noticed the tank temp increase. I got fed up and decided to go the LED route a few weeks ago. Did a lot of research on good LEDs and decided to go with buildmyled.com. Should get them mon or tues. Everything I read seems like they put out minimal heat from the fixture. The ballast has some temp but that sits down on the floor. The shrimp I have read about that seem to do well in my conditions are pretty much any neocaridinas and lower grade crystal shrimp. When I buy a house, I plan to have an RO system and a man cave with several tanks. Until then, I have to make due with the limitations I have.
  10. As for fish... 12 oto cats, 30 pygmy cory cats, 4 neon tetras (my gf needed a place to store them for the summer) and 9 khuli loaches. There are many yellow neocaridina shrimp, 12 amano shrimp, red rams horn snails, and 8 nerite snails. I want to add a nice size school of chili rasboras, if I can get some. No one seems to have them locally. Debated on the least killifish (smallest live bearing fish).
  11. The GH is around 200 mg/L as it is just Calgary tap water. The KH I recently measured at between 7-8 degrees. The temperature of my tank is between 78F and 80F depending on how hot it gets. My place doesn't get that hot, most of that temp issue is my lights which are generating a lot of heat (3 T5HO fixtures), hoping when my new LED lighting comes in that I won't have as much heat issues as most of the heat generated will be from the ballast which will be away from the tank. I will have 2 LED fixtures which are a fraction of the size of my current lights which span the whole top of my tank. ADA soil (mixture of Amazonian and Malayan) in the 65 and fluval shrimp stratum in the nano. Both tanks have been set up and running for about 2 years. I know that some shrimp need soft water and lower pH. I am not in a situation to set up an RO system because I am renting and purchasing water isn't something I really want to get into. I am not expecting to raise the most sensitive shrimp in my current situation. There are neocaridinas that can handle a wide range of conditions and many people who have caridinas (certain types) in conditions similar to mine. I am currently looking for some variety, not really looking to raise SSS grade shrimp.
  12. If they hatch, won't they be tadpoles first? You can see if they survive and then scoop em out to sell? If you don't want them, you can always get rid of the eggs by scooping them out and discarding them. Sounds cool to me to watch a bunch of tadpoles turn into frogs!
  13. Couple more pics: My kuhli loach found a shrimp to munch on (don't know if it was already dead). I also wanted to take a pic of this new plant I found while camping. It looks like a cryptocoryne but it has very thick leaves that are serrated. They feel like rubber. Don't know if it will survive, but hoping so. I want to see what it looks like as it grows out.
  14. My 65 gal is heavily planted. I just use tap water but inject CO2 from a cylinder through a reactor tied into the eheim return. I have a CO2 controller and my pH is currently 6.6. I am using EI dosing dry ferts and running 2 T5HO fixtures (4 bulbs) at 6500k. I have 3 fixtures but only running 2 right now. I have 2 buildmyled fixtures coming in by mail next week, a 6500k and a 10000k plant lights. I had also ordered the SoLunar light controller (program sunrise and sunset or %voltage dimming), but that is on back order. I also have a fluval nano tank with 2 compact fluorescent lights on it. I recently ripped all the plants out of there and started over with some new plants. I just use excel for this tank, but I do have a small paint ball cylinder CO2 system for this. It is just a pain because it runs out fast and it is difficult to get out to refill it often. Wanted to buy several cylinders but haven't got around to it yet. I figure since this tank isn't high tech, if I can get a hold of some blue diamond neocaridinas then they can go in here, since they are hardy.
  15. Looking for people who breed freshwater shrimp. The stores all sell them for ridiculous prices and often have them in with lots of dead ones. It doesn't make me want to purchase shrimp at $15 to $20 when there are 30 dead ones laying around. Makes me feel like I would just be purchasing shrimp that will soon die. Not to mention the amount of algae, snails, flatworms, etc that I have seen in the tanks with them. I understand that they don't have ideal set ups and that they lose a lot in shipping, plus shipping is expensive for them, so they have high prices in stores. I have thought about ordering them online but worry about shipping in heat and any delays with shipping (I have had a lot of issues with canada post not delivering things when they don't fit in the mailbox or leaving delivery notices that show up days after they are dated, especially when I was home each day and they didn't knock/ring the doorbell). For these issues I would prefer to purchase from others who have stabilized them and have had successful breeding. I can confidently purchase from people who have had them in their tanks for sometime without issues. I currently have yellow neocaridina. I was thinking of adding caridina species (any) into my 65gal and maybe get the blue diamond/blue dream neocaridina for my nano tank. Though I am open to options of what might be out there.

    Hey

Howdy! I know very little about salt water, except it is pretty and pretty expensive. I have been meaning to check out concept aquariums. I know they do custom tanks. I may have to look into them for future tanks. welcome
  17. I just purchased a light from buildmyled.com. they have a variety of preset led combinations such as 10,000k planted, dutch 6500k, etc or you can customize and make any combination or style you like. They also have dimmers so you can adjust the amount of light from 10% to 100% and program sunrise and sunset.
  18. I have recently redone my tank. I had gotten very busy with work earlier this year and my CO2 cylinder ran out. I couldn't seem to find the time to get to a place to get the cylinder refilled because I was always home late from work. Sadly to say that many of my higher needs plants slowly disappeared. Once that happened I just reduced the light and waited for a break to get things looking nice again. Now that I have some time I decided to rearrange some things and rip up the pygmy chain sword. Here is the result after 2 weeks. The tiger lotus is popping up all over. Which is fine. The rocks in the back will be covered in weeping moss once I get it in and I will add a moss wall to the right side of the tank and parts of the back wall as well. The mini pellia has not taken hold of the rock stack on the right. Never used this moss before and was hoping these rocks will eventually get covered with it. Star grass on the left is really taking off. I kinda regret getting both pogostamon stellatus and limnophila aromatica 'hippuroides' because they are so similar looking. Those are on the back left (left side of the rocks is pogostamon) and the right side of the rocks is the limno. Middle is rotala indica. I will be replacing my light fixture shortly with two buildmyled fixtures (one 10000k plant light and one 6500k dutch plant light). I will add more pics as the tank grows in

I have read up on this on many forums because I liked the idea of algae eliminator. From what I have read it is very popular in Asia and parts or Europe being displayed in almost every tank in stores and sales people push it on customers. As far as how well it works, I have read mixed reviews, with most people saying it is an expensive toy that doesn't really do much. Also it has a short shelf life and expensive refills/replacement parts. Others claim it works wonders. Because of such mixed reviews and price, I decided not to get it and hold out for more concrete research. It is relatively new to the market and over time it will either end up a gimmick or be seen as an amazing device. I tip my hat to those who have jumped in and purchased one to let the rest of us know their results.
  20. PlantGuy is based out of winnepeg http://www.theplantguy.org/Fertilizer_c_27.html Canadian Aquatic as mentioned earlier is good too. http://www.canadianaquatics.com/equipment/equipment.htm I have ordered from both companies. You will likely have to show a copy of your driver's license in order to get NO3 since it is a key ingredient in explosives

    Hello!

Greetings. I am a planted tank guy. They are fun and can be frustrating at times. Though I am sure salt water is much more complicated.
  22. The kickstarter was successful and has raised it's target. Yay! Dunno when it will be released for retail but those who pledged will be getting theirs probably in September.
