  1. we were looking at cherry shrimp.... she insisted they were baby lobsters. I love shrimp, so it'll be nice to have a shrimp tank.
  2. Ya, I've been meaning to check out calgary. I'm in Blackfalds, and the petland here doesn't have one set up running. I might just do plain jane five gallon for her too. she doesn't care what the tank looks like, she just informed me that it has to have "lobsters" which i told her were shrimp.

    Fluval Spec

Hi, I'm looking at setting up a small fish tank for my daughter as her reward for getting completely potty trained. It can't be big because she doesn't have lots of room in her room. I was thinking about the Fluval spec, and she really wants shrimp (she doesn't find anything creepy or gross) with maybe a few little endler guppies. What are people's thoughts on this, and has anyone had one of the Fluval SPECs before?
  4. My latest fish. a nice interestingly covered half moon.
  5. These are my two latest aquisitions. The white one took forever to get a pic of cause he's very shy.
  6. It is an olympus... Can't remember the exact one. Really wish I'd had it when i went to the vancouver aquarium last year.
  7. I recently got a digital SLR camera for christmas, and after practising on plants, the dog and my daughter, I decided to try photographing my bettas. I love photography and I have a major weak spot for Bettas. The first picture is of my latest addition that I picked up when I was in town purchasing water conditioner. He's a beautiful double ray crowntail. The second is of my most agressive betta. The third is my most relaxed betta. I have one more, but he hid in his log and wouldn't come out. I want to photograph more fish... It is a fun challenge. :boxer:
  8. They look amazing!! Wish I was gonna have a big tank, but for now its just small tanks.
  9. I finally have a tank set up with my beloved keyhole cichlids in it. I have three Keyhole cichlids in the tank. Lots of Hiding Places, and just added a few American Flag Fish to the tank. I am going to see how those work out. If they don't play nice together, I have another tank I can move the flag fish to. I'll post pictures soon, just need to get unlazy and find my camera. Any other suggestions for tank mates for these guys?
  10. Here is a picture of the tank now. I am still planning on adding a couple live plants.
  11. I added to fake stump things with plants attached. So now I just need to do the background. I am a really big fan of black, so I'm planning to paint the outside back black with acrylic paint. I did this before on a ten gallon i had a few years ago. worked really well and can be cleaned off if I want to change it. This starter tank has really set off my fish bug. lol. At work today all I could think of is what fish did I want to start up another tank for. ugh.... my boyfriend is gonna go nuts. Good thing he has some fish experience and likes them a bit. I also purchased two Bettas (crown tails) and they reside in seperate bowls on either side of my vanity in my upstairs bathroom. Lex knows now that when she has breakfast the fish need breakfast too. And also that when it is her bedtime it is time for the fish to eat again. She's catching on really quickly.
  12. She has loved fish ever since she was about a year old. She loves to sit there and watch them swim. So for now (being as she is only 18months old) I am teaching her to help me feed the fish (with the fish food secured away when we are not feeding them lol). She is doing really well at that part already. As for more tanks, I already have two bowls planned out for two bettas, and I am planning on doing a bigger tank (at least 45+ gallons) with some Keyhole cichlids and some other fish (maybe a long fin goby if I can find one) as soon as I can get everything in order. I already know where I'm placing the tank and can already picture it in my head how its all going to look already. I can't wait. Here is a picture of my daughter's tank. it is still a work in progress so forgive the lack of awesomeness. lol.
  13. So, slowly getting back into fish. I Just set up a small tank for my daughter. It has a few Platys in it. 2 Males and 3 Females. It just a beginning... I hope to get a bigger tank and set up in the future and start a set up for some Keyhole Cichlids, my favorite fish.
  14. is finally thinking about getting back into fish. :)

  15. Thanks a bunch. I'm about 5 and a half months along. I think. lol... The brain ain't doing so hot when it comes to remembering stuff right now. I'll think of something I need to do, stand up to go do it, and damn...I've already forgotten entirely what I was gonna do. It makes my husband laugh a lot. I have a 3D Ultrasound booked for the beginning of october which I'm totally excited to go for. Seems like my schedule is psychotically hectic lately.
  16. congrats on the succesful spawning. lol. Maybe one day I'll attempt it all again. Right now I'm working on my own bun in the oven, but am in the market for a new betta. My last one decided to commit suicide by jumping out of his little tank. He became a well enjoyed snack for my dog before I could rescue him. (I felt so bad). So currently my five gallon tank is empty and looking for a new friend. I wouldn't mind a bright red (solid or multi depending on coloring) or a black one. Can you keep an eye out for me girl?
  17. Nice to see the tank Jonah. One day I'll have to come visit and see the set up.
  18. next question....does anyone want these? I am definitely wanting to not have them in my tank for too much longer.
  19. A friend didn't want these anymore any basically gave them to me. There are two of them and they really don't fit into the plans I have for my tank. What are they, and does anybody want them? Also there is one other cichlid. sorry photo(last one) super super bad kinda bluish with black vertical bands (not always) and black horizontal stripe on top fin. Thanks
  20. the tank looks awesome. can't wait to see it with fish.
  21. Awesome idea setting up kits. Makes it way easier if you are a customer getting into bettas. My personal choice is otocinclus, but I also love my planted tanks.
  22. new world. i love your EBJD.....i'd hate to see him go.
  23. That tank was infected with camellanus worm. I'm not going to spread that around. the tank I have them in for temporary, has been cycled a long time ago. and I currently have it more than adequately filtered not to mention I'm doing water changes on it. All the fish seem fine, and I'm not going to cycle the 29g tank with these fish. I usually get a couple cheap feeders to cycle my tanks. I have cycled this 29g tank fully stocked once before. Refer back to my earlier post with the link to my broken fish tank episode. All the fish pulled through fine. They seemed to do well, and I kept close check on their water quality. I'm not trying to be rude....so don't take my response as such. I'm just doing the best with what I've got.
