  1. The price was a little better if I bought 10 I'm so often frustrated when I go to an LFS and they've got plecos in, and there's 1 of each species(so no chance to get a pair/colony)...My goal with any fish I buy is to try and make them as comfortable as I can so that they'll eventually spawn...I might sell/trade a few somewhere down the road... David
  2. I got these late this afternoon... David

  6. that's too bad maybe time to get some tank thermometers...I've got some stick-on ones that were a dollar or so each, and they read the temp accurately at a glance... david I just realized how old this thread is-my apologies

  8. the below excerpt from another website with regards to Riverwonders...attn: Mods-please feel free to delete this if it makes you uncomfortable to have this posted here..david Posted: Aug 7 2004, 11:31 AM Where did you get them? Must be nice... I ordered just *one* from the River Wonders "Zebra Pleco" link at the top of this forum. Order was placed 07/21 and money was PayPal'd to them, not received, I e-mailed them, they said it would ship next week, next week it didn't come, e-mailed them again three times as they didn't answer the first two times, they then said they "hope it wouldn't be much longer," then this week it never arrived, e-mailed yesterday asking for updates and they didn't reply. Would appreciate any tips on where you guys are getting them... this sucks
  9. You know what? My bad(and apologies) I was thinking about another place that I phoned around the same time....I phoned Riverwonders twice when they advertised zebras, and both times they didn't have any...so in that case shipping price wasn't important with no stock the other place was selling zebras for $85 each, and then quoted me a shipping cost of $120 .. david p.s. and as Smokey said, there's always the taxes and duty charges--god forbid they hold the package at the border or miss flight connections and kill your fish..
  10. I phoned them over a month ago and they told me shipping to Winnipeg would be $120 US....so it's not a flat rate to "Canada"...Alberta, maybe... david
  11. I heard someone is/was breeding them out in your neck of the woods...Maybe you'll find a deal down the road... david
  12. I had eight...one died of causes unknown(personally I don't think it was eating) soon after I moved their tank a couple weeks ago...the remaining seven are doing fine... david
  13. Yes I've had them for about a month now... When I got them they were less than 1cm long...they're F1's david
  14. I feed both zuchini and cucumber....and algae/spirulina tabs... not sure what you mean by acidic...they go nuts for it, and they don't seem to suffer any effects other than growth david
  15. 4 x L260 queen arabesque 8 x L46 zebra 8 x albino bristlenose 2 x L183 starlight bristlenose a dozen or so wild bristlenose LDA72 and ancistrus sp.3 about 200 fry from the wild bn's david
  16. very few strains of discus breed true...many times you'll get a percentage of turqs from just about everything...for example leopard snakeskins:when you see a picture of an award winning spotted fish, if you bred two of those together you'd be lucky to get 10% that are even close to as nice as the parents... If you want to breed your fish with some wild fish, go for it...as you said, they're all discus-it's not like you're spawning another one of those monsters like jelly bean cichlids... p.s. I've found if you can leave the fry with the parents, their chances are much better...especially if you can't be there to feed 5 times a day..
  17. thank-you both for the info...
  18. Wasn't there a guy in Alberta a few years ago that was breeding Hypancistrus Zebra(L46)?? whatever happened to him?? are there still any tank raised fish of his around?? I think with all the rumours of that pleco being placed on the endangered list, and the super-high prices, it would be nice if more hobbiests were breeding it
