  1. Well, well, I see that the old threads live on. Now to correct J-ROC there its not Friday fight nights anymore. Remember the old tunes, Saturday night's alright for fights. Then again once The Head Fishbagger / Liberace realizes any night is good to go. Just remember they all love fat chicks. In this corner, the reigning heavyweight champion :boxer:
  2. Connie, I am now using all three Kent max products, chromomax, phytomax & zoomax. Having better results than with DT (goes bad before can use it all). Reality is it has only been 3-4 months on phyto & chromo, and bout a month with zoomax, but cant complain about the stuff. Seems to be working. Within weeks on starting my candy canes have gone a growth spurt that still hasnt stopped and most everything else is looking healthy. My only recommendation is to match the particle sizes in the formulas (each is different) to what you are trying to feed. Bang for he buck, I am impressed. I use NLS for the fish and the three kent products twice a week for the inverts, I have discontinued the use of both DT and cyclop-eeze. The tank also gets an occassional bit of live brine shrimp, when I make to much for the seahorses. HTH
  3. Well now lets see, I read this first thing this morning - didn't make any sense. Figured I was just still asleep. Just read it again - damnit it still don't make any sense. Albert, I am afraid I don't understand this drunken form of hyroglyphics. When you wake up this afternoon, do us a favor, push your boyfriend out of bed and translate this into some form of coherant language. I have not problems with you "bringing it", but please at least use intelligable language and preferrably english. I know this can be hard, but if you will just take the extra two second to enounciate, (ok really just spell), your thoughts properly, then I will take back all the nasty things I have said about your drunken ramblings. Yes they are funny, but only if you can sortof figure out what they say.
  4. Damn it Michael Roth, that's not fair. I was told they didnt't have them. It settled they like you more. Maybe I should stop harrassing Albert, then I could get the equipement I want.
  5. Don't take this as a slam at Gold's - we all know his prices are top notch and very good selection, just trying to get Albert going. And it looks like it did. GOTCHA Albert. Mind you I would love if Golds did have a refractometer - cause I want one but to lazy to order online.
  6. Yes, we should all get back on topic here (sorry again blkwolfe - so easy to get side tracked). The whole point of this thread was to make sure everyone knows that Albert is gay and proud of it, no longer in the closest, full on Liberace gay! Oh yah, and slightly off topic. No, I do not believe that Golds carries any refractometers there, TheGr8Blade. :boxer: Round Four
  7. Just reading your there Fish_Dave_Ab, I am impressed 300g in a trailer. You must have rich relatives to get that there doublewide. On the sorry side a doublewide still isn't big enough for AndyL's ex.(so he repeatively says). :boxer: Round Three
  8. And back on topic, sorry blkwolf, couldn't resist. It will help to watch your temperatures aslo as this has a bearing on salinity. Even a great refractometer benifits from even temperatures. (not that I ever really warm the water in the change bucket, and once you get use to the differences you wont either, but it can help in the beginning).
  9. Albert don' You don't even like women. Just ask Kevin. :boxer: And Andy you need at least two more car that don't run to officially be classified a redneck. Round Two
  10. I agree and disagree with bigger is better - yes the water stability is greater with larger volumes of water but so are some of the problems. I have tanks setup from a 7g minibow, 10g hex, 55g FOWLR and 77g reef. The 55 has been the most problematic for me. My 10g hex is a great tank, originally had dwarf seahorses in it and then when they got a new home, I got a pair of harlequin shrimp in it now. If its an all in one setup the stock lighting will not support any corals and the filter is really just enough to move the water around, it wont generate any kind on current it the tank. If you want a anenome, I would use at least the 33g, as there are no anenomes that I know of that will work in a nano reef type setting (just too small for them). Also clowns are not really small enough for a nano either. You could do a setup similar to Golds in your 15g but you will need a Seio 620 for flow an upgrade the lighting to support corals, expensive - kindof but cheaper than the 33. You will really need to decide what if any coral you want and what if any fish yo want and then you can decide as to which tank to convert. Skimming a 15 isnt neccesary but you will need to stay on top of the water conditions. My advise is to look around here (some pics of my 10g hex as a seahorse tank and as the harlequin tank are both posted) and on other saltwater forums to pick out what are your must haves and I wants in regards to fish and coral, then base your decisions on that. By the way welcome to the dark side of aquarists.
  11. -roll- -roll- -roll- And the dead shall rise again to take over the world. No MB secret decoder ring till you repair the damage you have caused.
  12. In all fairness, he does still have his MB5. So now he can still be in the junior MB club. And dream of getting the real MB again one day. Now back to the drawing board there CADET ANDY. :P
  13. You want oddball inverts for a nano SW setup. Try a pair of these. Harlequin Shrimp. And yes that(starfish) is the only thing they will eat.
  14. Still working on getting the rest of my photos together, but here is a look at my 77 gallon reef tank. NLS Marie is the only food I use in it other than Phytomax & Chromomax (by Kent) for the corals. All these fish have been on a steady diet of NLS for over four months. None complain, ignore the food, and all are borderline fat. Heres the reef.
  15. My ocellaris host in the torch coral. Pic added
  16. I thought you were shuting the tank down and moving it into your MB5 till the new mighty MB7 was ready. Thinking bout that MB7 makes me wanna get a second on for a nanoreef, but alas need to finish big ref first. Just watch that the fish you get dont eat these helpful critters. I second, third and fourth that remark. Nothing worse than ruining a great tank by stocking too quickly and throwing the balance off.
  17. Hey Capt No problem having fun , really sarcasm is only one of the services I offer. Just didn't want to confuse an aleady confusing ubject like lighting, the comment was a little misleading and didn't apply to the question at hand. Hell, I'm still learning myself. The canister you are thinking about belonged to FISH on CANREEF, see the videos in his signature, way cool, exspecially "IKE".
  18. Really, soon to be populated with the frags you poached from my 77gal reef. And no the new stuff isnt ready yet so hands off. If you have been a confident FW keeper than the jump to salt isnt really that much, the only thing (the most important thing) is to research your purchases. Alot of really pretty colorful fish are the meanest SOBs out there and can quickly kill off and entire tank. As long as you look before you leap, so to speak, you should be fine with the transition.
  19. Well now, those were the two this that lept me out of saltwater for the longest time - till one I had the disposable imcome and was shown the maintenance is really not any harder than freshwater. The largest expences in starting up are the protein skimmer and lights and of course a good salt mix. The skimmer is a good idea either way and lights only really matter on a reef setup. You will need live rocks for the filtration (and live sand if you want), skimmer to remove excess waste. Lights to see your fish. And some form of water movement, as most saltwater fish require a strong current to orientate themselves. The maintenance schedule is really dependant on what type of fish you keep and the stocking density of the tank. In other words you need to decide first on what you want then figure out the routine from there. Generally, a 10-20% water change every 2-6 weeks (depending on bioload) and fresh RO water top off for evaporation (I do it every week to avoid major changes in salinity). The best way to approach getting into saltwater is to make a list of which fish you must have and which are only wants, then research the compatibility of all and decide which to get and in which order (order can be crutial in the survivability of some saltwater fish). Also decide on if you want fish only, fish only with live rock, or reef setup. "The Concientious Marine Aquarist" by Bob Fenner is an excelent source for what to look at prior to starting you first saltwater tank. HTH
  20. Hey Connie, Yes they will switch sex back and forth, depending on who ready to create eggs. Gives new meaning to "are you my Mommy or Daddy?"
  21. As for lightning in a canister filter or fuge, the only use for that is for the macroalgeas, but no need to confuse a newbie with that.
  22. The amount of light neccessary for a FOWLR tank is directly connected to what you want to see in your tank. If the room ambiant lighting is bright enough to see in the tank than you need none. If you actually want to see the fish then you will need some. How much? Depends on how bright you want the tank. I have a 55 gal predator tank with only 15w NO flouresant tube on it. Fish very active and healthy, even has some macroalgea growth. Also have a 7gal seahorse tank with over 25w of PC lights on it, and no macroalgea to support just the seahorses. Both tanks were build to suit a certain purpose and perform their function well. Again how much lightning? The only answer to that question is your personal preference. And a little on what you intend on keeping as livestock. HTH
  23. one of the guys on Canreef, had one in a glass 5 gallon for years with no problem, and the tank in that video in glass. From what I understand, it is possible for them to do it, just not really likely. They like to stay hidden in the rocks, and only attack as lunch passes the opening of the cave. If you are really worried about it pick up an eclipse5 or 7, acrylic tanks with lamp & filter for under $100 I believe.(or donate him to my empty 5 gal hex tank )
  24. Hey Tim, You definately have a smasher then. Its a peacock mantis. Check the second video link in his signature. http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16050
  25. Tim, Is that the one from Golds?
