  1. Looks to me like someone wants to do a little breeding, the egg tube is extending. Birger
  2. Looks like you enjoyed your trip, it is just" awful" for me I have to live and work in the area Did you check out the tropical fish swimming around the cave and basin area? Birger
  3. For syno's I currently have: Group of petricola(dwarf) group of multi's four ocellifer Four shoutedeni five angelicus group of nigriventris group of Microsynodontis sp.nigeria Last two are current breeding projects, may never happen but definately a challenge. Angelicus are not quite big enough to wreak havoc, yet. Ocellifer love to dig and surprisingly keep the angelicus in check,so far. Tangies are most active during the day.
  4. I am guessing you are talking about the Hara's they have at riverfront interesting "little" fish for sure.
  5. For ick keeping the tank in the dark really does seem to help, not just turning off the lights but total darkness, the high heat does a lot of the work as well. With the fish you have do not keep salt in the tank at all times there is no need, for medicinal purposes okay but thats it,it would be like taking tylenol every day just in case you got a headache.
  6. If it is the L239 or common name Blue Panaque(not actually a panaque), they are very shy and may not do so good with the convicts, if I remember right it is a blackwater fish and most likely needs this to do well especially to bring out its coloration. Where did you pick yours up?
  7. They do have a absolutely rotten reputation. Make sure your heater, filter intakes etc. are protected, it will turn on them next! How big is the wyckii?
  8. What used to be called Leiocassis siamensis is now called Pseudomystus siamensis, regardless of the name it is a cool fish.
  9. I sometimes keep adult petricola's(dwarfs) in the tank I let my mbuna drop their fry into without any worry whatsoever,I meant to try some smaller fry(egglayer) but haven't done that yet, but I am pretty sure what the result would be
  10. I found it down right cold at the auction as well and had written off the fish I purchased there but luckily they survived with no problems. As far as the ich problem if you were going with the high heat technique the heat has to go up to 84 or higher to be affective.I have used it on catfish with no problem but have never had to use it on rift cichlids but if I remember right they do not like the high temps.(especially tangy's) A fish could bring it in with it and not be to affected itself but could infect others. I am a believer in putting fish in quarantine and you may never know what kind of problems you saved for yourself, but I am sure we have all thrown a fish in "just this once" and ended up with problems.
  11. I don't find them to be to much trouble, they definately can't seem to stay out of anyone else's business but what mbuna can. I do not let mine grow into protein enhanced monster fish so that may help as well. I have been keeping them with salausi and demaisoni(described as pugnacious little b#*tards by glen)along with various syno's in a 72 gal bowfront. The biggest problem has been dealing with the difference in dietary requirements between these and the demaisoni and wouldn't really recommend them together unless a person knew some of the telltale signs of pending trouble, might be a good place to try the new spectrum food.
  12. What kind of Melanochromis do you think these are, I got them as simulans but I do not believe that is correct. Some kind of dialeptos or dwarf auratus type? The male is full grown at 8 cm There is actually more yellow which doesn't come out in these lousy pictures Pair male transitional male
  13. That's a good sign, definately no stress there, this is not uncommon with these so should be nothing to worry about.
  14. Hello to all, thanks to vantqE for steering me towards this forum. I have been keeping fish in one way or another since I was ten and now I am------ um---um ---34 years of fishkeeping thats more than I thought! I only have space and time for half a dozen tanks right now, mostly catfish (love my cats) and African cichlids.
