its worth nothing- but lucky for you i will take it off your hands FOR FREE, i will even pick it up :thumbs: i've seen new 90 gal's in the city go from $149-$199. i dunno, arent overflows an extra $50-$100 option on tanks when manufactured?, the fluvals anywhere from $119-$179,and the lights... depends on the lighting. yes these prices are new and thats NOT starfire glass- but a little fyi to help you with your decision.

hey glenn- welcome aboard- where abouts in the vancouver area? im originally from maple ridge, but the idea of living there again makes my skin crawl.

will the remora skimmer rated for 20-75 gal tanks be sufficient for a 60 gal or would it be better to spend the extra cash and get the larger? im wondering if its like how they rate canisters. (like 1 xp3 for an aquairum up to 175 gal)

that does sound like something i would benefit from. question is, where do you QT 20+ mbun and haps where they wont freak? i dont have any other tanks for these fish.

all these fish had been in there for a while, some over a year. there are no physical symptoms before death, only heavy breathing - some only hours before i find them dead. all the other fish seem happy and normal. Yes jods- this is very depressing. i feel helpless watching them and feel like maybe i should sell everything before i get labeled a fish murderer. I see tanks that get neglected to the point they dont see a vacuum or w/c for upwards of a year and the fish all survive, and i maintain my almost religiously! The only new thing that i have added to my tank is a bottle of aqua plus water conditioner. same stuff i always have used. water parameters are all testing normal. i really should go get a test kit for ph and stuff. i only test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates.

update: the Great die-off of 2005 continues, i have 1 demansoni left and all my met. Estherae are dead. they are still dying and that brings my grand total to 11 fish dead in the last couple weeks. the red empress are happy and the sc fryeri are spawning like crazy and the labs are now spawning too. what the hell?!?!?!?!?!?!

another death this morning. i do water changes every week and vacuum at that time as well. nothing ever out of the norm- pretty routine. i dont use a water softener- just calgary tap water. dunno if anything has changed with my water at all. its seems to be sticking to my 2 male ideberg sc fryeri and my met estherae, the yellow labs, demansoni and red empress are all fine- the red empress are even spawing during all this. guess the male has a fetish with death or something.

no new plants, no new fish. the temp dropped one day more than normal, with a w/c i did. i can normally get away with a w/c and see a 1 degree variation- this day it changed 4-5 degrees. this was 2 weeks ago i believe though. unless there was something on my arms from work when i dove into the tank for a cleaning i cant think of anything. i wash my hands pretty good when i go into the tank and never thought my arms to be a prob when i wear mainly long sleeves at work. i dont know- this is not making me to happy- i feel so bad for my fish, and i am doubting my fish keeping skills.

found some more dead afterwork. there are no symptoms, everyone is eating well (which they get fed lightly twice a day- i will switch it to once now as per recommended from Dennis today), a few seem slightly stressed, nothing crazy then hours later they are colorful ornaments laying in the sand.

checked all water parameters last night and everything was fine (no nitrites, no ammonia and 5-10 nitrates) and still i had 2 more deaths this morning. Anyone have ANY thoughts on this?

ammonia and nitirites were zip. The first time i checked the nitrates they were probably 100-160ppm +, second time was 60 ppm (that was after 50% w/c and 2 days after the first- now 24 hours later after another 25% w/c they are back to low levels (5ppm perhaps). all this and i do weekly 20% w/c's and vacuum everytime....

i have a 90 gal with 1 xp-3, 1 AC500 and 1 Eheim 2250 providing the filtration. stock list would be 9 elec yellows, 7 met. estherae, 9 sc fryeri, 3 demansoni's and 4 red empress all between 2.5 in to 5 in. that was before the deaths. in the last few days i have lost 2 iceberg blues and 1 met estherae- starting to panic a little. i checked my nitrates when my 1 iceberg was acting different- they were off the scale. did a large water change and cleaned out the prefilters on my 2 802 powerheads. The one iceberg then died. checked the nitrates the next day and they were really bad again- took apart to clean my ehiem which was a mess! (clean every 3 months my @$$!!!!) so did another large water change and put the eheim back on. no nitrates tonight but 2 very sudden deaths. everything seems fine, blink and then dead fish. im guessing nitrate poisoning- any one else chime in? how long can i expect fish deaths?
