  1. Thats really very litt;le light at all....suitable for anubias, java fern, etc, but not much else.
  2. Very nice. Your equipment looks like some pretty heavy stuff....did you have to haul it in far?
  3. I doubt it...when Hagen gets wind of a retailer seeling FX5s lower than $275, the retailer usually finds themselves without replacement stock on the next order.
  4. "NPK" stands for Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium...the three macronuytients plants require. It is possible that you are a bit iron deficient...you may want to grab a test kit and test for chelated iron. Flourish Comprehensive is a micronutrient source, as opposed to macronutrient (as found in Flourish Potassium, Phosphorus, and Nitrogen)....Flourish also makes an iron supplement. What, precisely, is the lighting on the tank, and what size tank is it?
  5. Hydor makes them....Pisces Pets in Calgary may have those....and I believe that aquariumplants.com carries the Dupla ones.
  6. Damn straight...only Alberta gamefish that I have not caught here.

    :welcome: to the board.
  8. The better exchange has been reflected to some degree in out prices at Riverfront, but so far it is just a few cents on most fish, especially as our air-transport costs have increased some in the past few months.
  9. No idea, unless you get water from a softening unit. I live in NW Calgary, and all my plants thrive (with the exception of Echinodoras, which I never have any luck with), both with and without CO2.
  10. Kept them off and on for about 25 years. Any is good, but it will depend on the size of tank and number of frogs....I prefer canisters and sponges. Depends on your ambient room temperatures, but it is a good idea. I would...although leaving the water level a few inches below the lip is a good idea, it is not a guaranteed method of keeping them in. With enough light and substrate, yes, but I would suggest plants such as Anubias, Bolbitis, Java fern, etc. Depends on the individual frog, but generally, yes.

    Hello

    Welcome to AA! :welcome:
  12. Sounds like an interesting trip....will be waiting on those pics. You know, it sounds like we should organise an AA fishing trip or two for next summer....mebbe Michele Lake, Coral lake, or Barnaby Ridge Lake.
  13. Name of shop? Franco's, by any chance?
  14. You may need to place a small piece of slate or some such along each side of the Anubias rhizome until it roots more firmly, but why not just lash it to a piece of driftwood or stone? As far as the fern goes, try plantgeeks.com, but post pics here, as I am interested to see them....where did you get them?
  15. Primarily herbivorous, but they are opportunistic omnivores and will very happily snack on meaty foods as well.
  16. Considering that most sanitisers are a good 70%+ alcohol, that is not surprising at all (Purell burns really well, as does the Life brand). Now, try rubbing the corner of a sugar cube in some ash (cigarette ash works well) and lighting it.

    Hello

Gee Mathew, i had not noticed you missing at all. Glad to hear that you are actually still alive...hope to hear a bit more from you in coming weeks.
  19. Bit of a crap-shoot, I am afraid....it is possible that the single jewel will reintegrate into the larger tank (I would suggest some tank-furniture rearranging first), and it is also possible that introducing a second adult jewel will work (this is a 50:50 thing)....only one way to find out, I am afraid.
  20. Most unfortunate...the hobby has truly lost an important figure.
  21. I cannot remember all my sources, but there were a couple of books, and I believe that I read a couple of breeding accounts on a plant or shrimp forum....I will attempt to locate the threads.
  22. Easy to keep, not easy to breed, as they require semi-marine conditions for larvae hatching and growth. That is a first..they are basically filter-feeders and I cannot imagine them doing much more than brushing algae wafers or snails with their 'fans' to remove surface particles.
  23. 'rock shrimp' = 'mountain shrimp' = 'bamboo shrimp' = 'flower shrimp' = Atyopsis moluccensis...it all depends on which supplier they come from as to the common name used on the shipment (which is usually what the retailer will use).
