syno321
Room temperature, substrate unnecessary, floating plants ( Elodea, Water sprite, Hornwort ) is simplest and probably best. Daily water changes are not required provided there are enough floating plants.
Toirtis
Correct...floating plants, if thick and plentiful enough, will provide a semi-platform and filter the water some. As for toxicity...they are toxic, although on the lower end of newt toxicity...but certain individuals will be more sensitive than others. That being said, after handling, hands should be washed thoroughly, as contact with mucous membranes will likely cause at least mild irritation.
