snaggle
What is the best way to clean a tank after you use in for turtles? I have cleaned the tank with vinegar and warm water. What else could I use to disinfect the tank so my new fish will not get sick? Brad
Qattarra
IMO , a bleach solution , then rinse well , use dechlorinator to be sure. Sue
JORG
Why would your fish get sick because a turtle was in the tank before ? I think just a general cleaning would suffice. If you do use bleach make sure you neutralize it with vinegar afterwards.
Sam Chicklets
I've had sliders in the past in a tank with gold fish and they never got sick. A few got eaten but never sick.
snaggle
The tank had turtles in it then my father in law put the turtles in a pond and never cleaned out the tank so it sat with dirty water in it from June to Sept before I cleaned it out. It is just more of a you cant be too careful thing, I don't know what festering in the tank since the turtles left the tank. Brad
Sam Chicklets
Wash it out with water and bleach and it will be fine.

Toirtis
5% bleach (plain bleach....no scent or fibreguard) solution is great...rinse well and use a little extra dechlor to neutralise it.

JORG
So vinegar wouldn't do the same job?
Sam Chicklets
So vinegar wouldn't do the same job? Vinegar won't kill a lot of the bacteria. Edited March 18, 2007 by Sam Chicklets
