patrick
My wife would like to try and breed Betta's. Is it even possible to do this in the very alkaline water that we have (PH8.8)?
jvision
You may need to cut your water a bit w. RO, but if I remeber correctly, you said your hardness was pretty low... so, you should be OK. They breed well in a 10 gal tank w. lots of floating plants and places for the female to hide. cover the top as tight as possible, as drafts can kill the kids. Yes the water is very soft - <1 dGH from the tap. I guess the only way to find out is to try and see what happens. It would probably require quite a bit of RO to lower the PH since the buffer is so high - 38 KH. The sodium level is also high - 385mg/L but I don't think that should be a problem. Qattarra
http://www.plakatthai.com/ Here is one of the sites I get a lot of good advice from. There are several others. Do some reading as with different people there are different methods. Bottom line , clean, clean, clean water.
