What do they look like?

Are they like the spruce bugs that they have out here?

My boss keeps on trying to scare me... doesn't work, but I don't have the heart to tell him...

Here is an article about them. It does not say if you can keep them in an aquarium. I have seen it done though. There was a kind of diving beetle at one of the museums I saw when I was in Montreal. I am not sure what they had to feed them as keeping them at home did not cross my mind so I did not ask.

I have had several customers in at the shop that are keeping these:

As for the 'spruce bugs', I am wondering if you migh be talking about the box elder bugs which are often called 'maple bugs' around here:

Yes the Giant Water Bug is what I was reffering to, saw one of those guys at the Pembina River (I think I posted pics) and fell in love. I suppose I will need a fully closed tank so that this guy doesn't get out and attack my dog(s) or me in my sleep, they look like they could dish out a nasty bite.

Did your customers tell you much about their keep Christian? I can get live food easily enough... did they house them all year round? Seems to me the changes of the seasons probably affect their habits.

Not a lot...I have kept them myself years ago, and just kept them in a 'pond' aquarium, with a sponge filter, mostly natural lighting, etc....lived almost a year, as I recall.

I have kept one of them in a 15g tank with zebra danios a couple of years ago. It lived for about 8 months and I only fed Nutrafin flake.
