captinstabbin
Hi to everyone. I've got 2 female demasoni(pseudtropheus) that are holding eggs.Does this mean that the eggs are fertilized, or is that something that happens later on? The reason for the concern is because I have removed the females & placed them in a seperate tank.
nutmeg
The odds are that they are , it happens as they lay the eggs.
dunl
If you got males as well, chances are that they are fertilized. If not, expect the females to spit and eat the eggs sometime in the next couple of days. If they keep holding, you're in luck. Great job, post pics of the fry when you get them. malawi_luver
well ok first the male will build and rty to lure the female that wants to breed to his area... he will prepare that area and will really get excited adn whist around the female vigourosly... the the male will shake lots and they will begin... the male and female will take a V shape female to egg spots and thats when theyll be fertilized now when the female wants to lay her eggs shell switch places adn the males head will be looking down by that fin on the back for the eggs and will look and fertilize... and repeated for about 30 minutes... Vallisneria
Good try malawi_luver, but for a bit clearer explanation check out http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/mouthbrooders.php It explains it well and even shows pics. And if you want more info about breeding cichlids check out the rest of teh articles http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/breeding_list.php COngrats on the breeding. There is nothing as cute as a baby fish Just make sure that after your female spits the fry you remove them. THey could possibly eat the fry. Good luck Edited January 21, 2005 by degrassi
