Parachromis1
hi as you all know my umbie is my beloved fish. the other day he got a white bump that is rather large on his chin and it looks like a big whitehead pimple. he seems to have fallen off though. i had a large pair of festae die quite rapidly to this. how do i cure it and what is it? thanks Quinn
Kevin
Quinn, A picture would really help. Without it I can only guess. I had a festae take a sparring wound where the scale was ripped off. A day later a big bumb like a giant whitehead came up on the spot. (pardon my description, but the tecture was like the white stuff on the backside of a scabby bandage). Now that I have given everyone the creeps, I will continue. I was not sure if the spot was infected, so I did a 30% water change, salted the tank at 1 tblspn per gallon, and reduced the heat from 77 to 75. I did another 30% water change the next day and watched the spot carefully. She healed up in a week. I hope that this is just a wound. It could also be any number of other things. But a water change and salt cannot hurt. Kevin
skinless
from the zit like description you give, i've seen similar pimples once or twice on convicts. would always clear up ~48 hours later. i figured it to be physical aftermath after scrapping/chasing. hasn't led to worse conditions in my experience. Parachromis1
okay thanks guys. i hope it clears up as i jst cleaned the sump on my 230 gallon and did a 50% water change. i didnt have salt so i couldnt add it. if it doesnt get better looks like it is off to the quarantine tank for him. Kevin
I think that you are better not to move him, unless he is being harassed by your other fish. Don't be shocked tomorrow, the wound on my festae looked worse the second day and them quickly improved. Just a side note, I always keep a pound of non-iodized salt around for the fish. It is cheap and often it is very effective if you catch a problem early. Kevin

Kevin
It looks just like an infected wound. Just don't stress the Umbie out and he should heal. Kevin

Snowape
Quinn,I had a "jaguar" with a very similar injury/infection under one eye, turns out he had a piece of dorsal spine from his "girlfriend" stuck in from his mouth outwards, once I pulled it out,50% water change every third day with salt added and it cleared up in just over a week, the scarring lasted a lot longer though.Check to see if he has anything in the wound. Good luck Denis
