Cleaning filter pipes

How do you folks with long filter pipes on your canister style filters clean the inside of the pipes.

My filter seems to be running slow so I figure maybe there's crud in the pipes.

The intake line is about 6 feet long and the exhaust is about 4 feet.

Thankx

I use a wire with a swab on the end.

I feel kinda stupid now.

Never thought of that, I wonder if mig wire would snake through. There's three 90 deg. bends.

I'll give it a try, thankx.

You can also purchase pipe-cleaner type doodads; Big Al's has some nice, long ones attached to wire, and serious music stores would have similar items for cleaning brass instruments (trumpets or trombones). That being written, I like Sam's idea for its thriftiness!

i tie a piece of cloth to a piece of fishing line and wash the line down the tube until it pokes out of the other side then just pull the cloth through

You can go to any decent LFS and buy various diameter round bristle brushes with a nylon cord attached so that you can pull the brushes through. If you find that the cord that they came with isn't long enough, a peice of nylon cord from your weed wacker will work (I've done it!!:).

You can also get similar nylon bristle brushes from any industrial supplier (Acklands, Greggs, etc)
