Over kill filter for tank?

Recommended Posts

I'm selling a fluval FX5 and this one guy is interested in it but he only has a 86 gallon tank...

Also he is gunna have live plants with tropical fish

Would it be over kill?

Is there a way to adjust the flow?

oops i think i should have posted in equipment thread..

I just noticed there is a flow control valve on output of filter

I don't think the valva on the output is meant to be for flow control.

I would think if you cut back on your output with the valve you will just make your motor work harder

and maybe cause a few other problems.

I have heard of people running FX5,s on 33 gal tanks also

Nah, that's not over kill. You can never have too much filtration. I have an eheim 2250 on a 90G tank and it filters tanks up to 254 gallons, besides that the tank has an additional AC 70. If he wants to buy it, let him buy it, he will probably be happy he did.
