for a 6' tank i would look into 2x3' fixtures and use them side by side, the fixures and bulbs should be cheaper too. i just bought a 48" 4x65 watt fixture with lunar lights for 120.00 bucks delivered to my door (included bulbs) so i find spending 400 on a fixture is just too much, shop around...

Unfortunately my tank doesn't have that support in the middle. So using two lights is out. It'll have to be one long light or something hung from above, but to be honest I'm not fan of hanging lights.
thats a simple fix. cut a strip of glass about 3-4 inches wide and put it in the center of the tank

That sounds like a good idea but doesn't a light fixture require air flow underneath it to dissipate heat? I would figure with all those lights you'd need to get rid of the heat, but I may be wrong because I am new to this.
