Vallisneria
Brackish fish need more salt then regular fish can handle. To make your water brackish you use Marine salt which also makes the water harder, in addition to the salt. So no, mixing brackish fish and regular fish is not a good idea. somnio
my water is already extreamly hard (i use city water)... so how tolerent are silver tipped sharks (catfish) to fresh water?
KTK
Whats the Best way to measure the salt lvl in a brackish tank. I hear hydrometer dont test low enough. What is the recommended lvl? Edited July 16, 2009 by KTK
gobies et al
The fish you have listed are not brackish fish, so IMO, that is not fair to them to try to acclimate them to brackish. The silver-tipped shark/catfish requires brackish to maintain it's health. You need to do more research for compatible fish for the catfish. KTK - The 2 methods I use are measuring with a refractometer or a salt level test kit (API). The test kit is adequate for low brackish 1.003 - 1.008 . For higher levels I would use the refractometer.
