Fishful Thinking
Just picked some up. Any hints/tips with this plant? I have high light, pressurized CO2 and EI method.
werner
This isn't an easy plant. Besides the light and CO2, it likes soft water. Lots of iron, plus a low nitrate to high phosphate ratio is best. However, since you are using EI, you may end up with slightly leggier stems and a pinkish orange (rather than deep red) coloring. Apparently very high nitrates may cause stunting. I've always managed to choke it out with other plants that steal the light- so keep up with your pruning! jvision
Yeah, I always found it to be a light/CO2 pig that doesn't do well with tight quarters.
Fishful Thinking
Alright, I have it planted with some room around each stem and if needed I can jack up the CO2. Thanks for the info.
aquatica
Grew it years ago with no CO2 but lots of light about 6-8 40 watt tubes if I remember correctly. Usually it does not ship well so the plant you get is sometimes a little bit of a dishrag or was with other that were, often only 20% of the total amount coming is is salvageable. Thus not available that much and a little of a rarity. If you see it in fine form at a LFS it is has come from a local hobbyist. Hope it does well for you Rudy
