robin
hello. i have a breeding pair of apple snails (new to me) that set a clutch of eggs above the water in a corner of the tank. from what i know, this is what they do. the question.....the clutch fell a few days ago. is this supposed to happen? it is now sitting on the gravel at the bottom of the tank. are the eggs supposed to fall into the water to hatch? if not, and if the snails propogate again, how long from when the eggs are laid to when they hatch? do i do anything special? there is always an inch or more at the top of the tank without water for them to lay on.... robin
Wingin' It
I'm pretty sure the eggs aren't supposed to fall down, if they're below the water line they suffocate. My first clutch was laid on the 12th of last month and still haven't hatched yet, though I can see the little snails inside. Just curious what color the snails are that laid them? jvision
When my apple snails lay eggs, I pull the clutch off and put it in a small tupperware container w. a wet paper towel and set it on the light. They begin to hatch in about 2 weeks. Then I just drop it in the tank and the little snails start to pour out.

BettaFishMommy
Robin, if the clutch falls in the water it is the same as drowning the eggs and they will not hatch unless you get them out of the water asap. might as well toss that clutch. told you those apples were good breeders! lol. edit - always use a spoon for removing clutches from the tank wall people...... mooshy gooshy clutch in the fingers once too often....... hahaha!
