You might be able to find one at Home Depot, but if not you can check out Litemore - they're on 109ave and 180something.... I think. :)

I am not totally sure if it has to be T5 specific - they usually say what type of bulbs it will work for. You could give it a shot, but don't cut any of the wires incase it doesn't work... you'll want it to look as brand new as possible if you have to take it back. Definitely make sure the wattage is enough - I once bought a ballast that was just shy of the wattage of the lights I had, and it couldn't fire the lights up; they'd just flicker.

I have been looking around a lot for a cheep light system and I did find out that AquaGiant on Parsons or 50th on the Northside does carry ballasts. Save on Electric on 97th and around 36 ave may as well (they have 48" T5HO 2x54 for $78 with lights, and sell the lights (approx range from memory) 4100K or 6500K for $8-$10). Just call to confirm.

T5 and T8 do use differnt ballasts.

T5 v.s. T8

Can a T5 lamp replace a T12 or T8 lamp/ ballast?
