Fishypoon
Hello all! Hoping to benefit from your experience! I've been looking into getting some rams (German rams) but they are usually much less colorful than the ones I see on the internet and in books..is there a reason? Do they grow more colorful? The ones I see are usually a dull grey, and not the wonderful blue and yellow and green color. Thanks!
Nandopsis
It could be just a bad strain of fish, Bad lighting, or just a simple case of poor quality food, or a combination of some of them. Dads fishroom (Edmonton) usualy gets some very nice ones at a fair price.
JHG
Or perhaps the water conditions of the tank are not suitable. The picture in my avatar is one I took. That fish was kept in an ideal situation - planted aquaria, some driftwood, low pH, etc. Sometimes the drab looking ramirezi from the store will be a real stunner if only they're given the right tank conditions. If you're looking for some high quality ramirezi or other SA dwarf cichlids, and there are enough of you to make it feasible, I'd highly recommend ordering from Oliver Lucanus of Below Water. Oliver is the premier dwarf cichlid guy in Canada and one of the top in the world. J
