  1. Tim...you gotta post a pic of that shark (egg)!!!! How long till it hatches???
  2. This is the message that I get: time is 1:01 am Early Sat morning!!!!
  3. well, I only keep african cichlids and in all honesty, I really don't know much about the fish above, Could you name and describe a few such species that get very large??? It's hard to make a comment on something for me with out knowing all the information as well as ave a few examples to base my opinion on!!!! Thanks
  4. As far as paint goes...use the "Flat" black paint...give VERY little reflection
  5. It's not the cost issue... It's easy to put paper and those other backgrounds on a new tank that is not filled and can be moved around...It's going to be very hard to move a 125 gallon tank filled with water to replace a wet paper background.....I like the paint as it a more permenant type background that can always be scraped if it is not wanted in the future... Also, I use all AC 500's on my tanks and there is always a little spillage when removing the media for cleaning!!!!
  6. I have to agree on the art paper. I use "painter touch" latex paint from Home Depot, USE A ROLLER TO APPLY several thin layers. Takes about 6-8 thin coats to get the effect that I like..... The paint comes in several colors, I prefer black backgrounds...the black come in 3 sheens, flat, semi-gloss and high gloss. I just bought a tin of semi-gloss to see what it would look like, I have used the high gloss on another tank with great results!!!!!! The High Gloss ends up looking just like the background that you can buy from LFS...VERY shiny!!! Mask off the areas that you dont want to get paint on!!!! I also like to put the regular aquarium backgrounds behind the paint to avoid getting scratches in the paint!!!!!! Works great for me!!!!
  7. http://www.cichlids.ca/images/gallery/66Pr...nReef-thumb.jpg This is a pic of my old F0 taiwan reef that was in thge same tank as the above C. moorii !!!! Great to see that Gold's is still using pics of my former fish!!!!! Makes me a proud father!!!!! LOL
  8. Here's a pic that is now on teh Gold Aquariums website of the the C.moorii when they were in my tank!!! Notice the red on the anal fin!!!!
  9. Back when I use to breed betta's...I would cut a styrofoam cup in half vertically and float it in the tank...open end but up against the glass...I found that this helped keep the bubble next in one place!!!! Just a thought as it seems that you are doing every thing correctly!!!!
  10. so...any thoughts as to what you are going to put in it yet???

    ABS pipe

GE Silicone I can be found in the small tubes at Home Depot. That for sure is safe for fish
  12. I thought I saw a female left at Gold's (White Calvus) the last time I was in. I will take another look tomorrow when I go there!!! I wil definetly keep you in mind once these guys start producing fry...The females already look fat!!!!
  13. All the calvus in the pics are zambian black calvus...originally from Golds!!!
  14. What are you going to put in it once it's cycled???
  15. Looks great!!! Are those pre-built caves...OR stacked slate??? Looks good either way!!
  16. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1549
  17. The pics of the cyps do not do the justice!!!!! The calvus range from 2" to about 5" for the big male. I have also included a pic of the dom male multi
  18. More pics including some cyps: Let me know what you think!!!!
  19. I will try to get some pics of the cyps up later tonight!!! It is quite a nice tank, but it seems to me that the multies are a little too aggressive towards the new calvus...I hope they settle in nicely...it's only been a couple of days, so I will give them some time to work it out, otherwise, I will have no choice but to part with multies!!!! The calvus simply cost way to much to take chances of them getting killed!!!!!!
  20. The Calvus were origianlly brought in by Gold's and bought by my neighbor...I picked them up off my neighbor as he is getting out of fresh water and into salt!!!! They have been breeding like crazy for him...he has about 500 babies in grow out....they are spoken for....But I should have some in no time!!!!!
  21. I thought I'd post a few pics of my new F0 Calvus and some multies got in the way!!!! I have in this 90 Gallon tank: - 4 - F0 Alto. Calvus Zambian Black (1 male, 3 females) - 9 - N. Multifasiatus - 7 Cyp. Leptosoma "utinta" (2 males, 5 females)(and five others in grow out !!) Enjoy !!!!
  22. I'd try starving them for a few days then throwing in some pellet food to see if they take to it.
  23. espesially with the 10 gallon tanks...they are made of such thin glass and there may be a bit of stress put on the ends!!
  24. well I am in the process of doing this with some wild caught calvus.... How long have you the fish and what kind are they????
  25. Another option would be to add some females of the same species into the tanks. They might distract him enough to leave the other species of fish alone!!!!
