jewels
How picky are Bristlenose Pleco's about species? I have a Male sold to me as "wild caught Peru" What are the chances of finding him a suitable mate ? Do BN interbreed? I do not wish to angst the 'L#' purist crowd but they all look the same to me. corrosionjerry
There is a good chance that he will breed / you will likely have to use an ro water mix to get the water to his liking and then find him a mate... you should be able to find an abundance of suitable females... this is a common spiecies with of them domestically bred. jvision
I don't think RO is necessary, as I have WCs breeding in tap water all the time. Some say there are a few very similar, yet different spp. BNs in the hobby; while others lump them all together in the same sp. I have found that WC males can be a bit picky. My one is in a tank with 4 females, and I think he only lets 1 of them in his cave. I had one male for over 5 yrs before he picked a mate. Domestic males seem to be a lot less picky. Find the biggest females you can - the wild guys like 'em big!
