Hi, anyone know whats the difference between fluval 204 and 205? I' ve been considering on changing my hob filters for a cannister, it will be use in a 30 gallon tank. Any opinions/recommendations between fluval 205, fluval 204 and eheim 2215?

I have never used Fluval but I would also vouch for Eheim. Only canister filters I have ever used and they never gave me a problem. However I would check the gph before purchasing. My Ecco 2234 is rated for up to 60g but only pumps out 160 gph which is clearly not nearly enough for a 60g. I think they rate them based on biological filtration capacity. I also read though their GPH is rated at a full of media canister as compared to other company's who rate their flow in an empty canister which is unrealistic.

I would go with the 2217 as it's rated at 264 gph compared to the 2215 is only 164 gph. You want to aim for around 10x per hour but I think 264 would be close enough. I keep my in/outflow pipes together but some keep them apart. I couldn't tell you which is better though.
