Okotoks
I have a 10 gallon Iwagumi tank with a large breeding colony of Red Cherry Shrimp. Recently pond snails have taken over. If I add a few assassin snails to this tank, wil the shrimp be safe from attack by the assassins?
Ron
Yes your shrimp will be safe. There have been a few reports of assassin snails attacking and killing shrimp but no one has ever witnessed the act.
rayfong
The shrimp should be safe. I have assassin snails in with my crystal blacks and blue pearls. All shrimp and assassins are breeding.
Vallisneria
Same, I have assassins in with yellow shrimp and both are breeding like crazy.
Caprichoso
They can kill them. I've witnessed it myself. This isn't my video but my assassin snail killed 1 of my cherry shrimp. It was twitching and alive..not after he got through with it though. It is possible but not very common.
Cgy_Betta_Guy
you would think the a shrimp would be able to warp jump away from a snail. Perhaps those particular shrimp are into their cocktails and not paying attention to their surroundings.
Ron
I've seen shrimp twitch on their side for a while after I've called the time of death, that is the only way I can imagine a snail catching a "moving" shrimp. Also if your shrimp are stupid enough to get caught, do you really want them reproducing? Ron
Cgy_Betta_Guy
that was what I was thinking too.
Caprichoso
I've seen shrimp twitch on their side for a while after I've called the time of death, that is the only way I can imagine a snail catching a "moving" shrimp. Also if your shrimp are stupid enough to get caught, do you really want them reproducing? Ron If they get caught, they can't reproduce. Problem solved. Also, personally, I don't breed shrimp for intelligence. It's a shrimp, not a dog. Edited September 20, 2011 by Caprichoso
