blink
I'm having no luck finding an answer but how do shrimp relate to fish as far as bio load? The old standard of 1 inch of fish body per gallon of capacity is fine and easy but does it apply to shrimp? I've got a 12 gallon edge with 3 galaxy rasbora, 3 endlers, 4 cherry red and 2 rock shrimp and so far everything seems fine but I just want to make sure its not overloaded. Can I add more shrimp? jeremoose
I would add more shrimp without blinking, they're so tiny they hardly touch the bio-load at all. I have a planted 10g with probably 60 RCS and the colony is thriving. Edited February 2, 2012 by jeremoose
AJanzen
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it either. I have a 75g planted community tank and my cherry shrimp have gone crazy. Have somewhere around 200 in there right now with a crazy amount of guppies and platies and the tank is doing just fine. I just make sure I overfeed the tank regularly so the shrimp have something to munch on as they've gotten rid of all the algae ages ago. epiphany
Yeah, I'd bring the cherries up to 10-15 and they should bring the population up themselves nicely. Just make sure you've got a good prefilter if you want them breeding. If you don't want breeding you could toss a few amanos in there. blink
Where is a good place to get shrimp here in Edmonton? About half of my cherries are from aquarium central and half from pjs pets west Edmonton mall. My next additions will be from aquarium central
Vallisneria
Aquarium Central has a good selection of shrimp. Lots of different colors and species.
