cainechow
So does it mean not to apply it while under water?

jcgd
It means it's not meant to be under water, dry or not. Silicone degrades in water and it's not meant to be used for our purposes. But that doesn't mean it doesn't work; the company just isn't going to take responsibility for it. Even in water it lasts years, if not decades. Scs1200 is ridiculously strong, much stronger than GE1. Definitely shouldn't be using GE1 for tanks. But once again, it will usually cut it for smaller tanks and resealing. Burbot
If your silicone is 100% you are fine regardless of which brand. Clear 100% is what you need. Anything with an additive like mold or mildew resistance will kill the fish. Cheers
glassdude
sorry to say but the brand does make a big difference....some 100% silicones are not a good as others
cainechow
Well 100% silicone means your it shouldn't poison your tank, but doesn't necessarily mean that it will be strong. Scs1200 and RTV are construction adhesives and a lot stronger than a sealant such as GE1. SCS 1200 is not a lot more and if you are in Calgary or Edmonton, not that hard to get. Just don't get it from the LFS.
ckmullin
If you wanted to apply underwater I suggest a scuba mask.
cainechow
Haha. Probably all silicones can't really be applied underwater or wet surfaces because the water causes silicone to form a skin.
